My shallow post....

I've never found Mary very attractive. Not unattractive or anything, but never striking. A bit bland. Yes, looks aren't everything, but there needs to be an initial attraction unless you've been friends for years and it turned into something more. I can understand what drew Joachim to Alexandra and then Marie. All the married in wives (and husband in Edo's case) are very striking. Jack is also a good looking man. The York ladies are very pretty. Maddie is stunning. Carl Philip is attractive, but he seems oily...literally. Edward out kicked his coverage with Sophie in so many ways, but I'm a Sophie sugar.

I'll see myself out.  Visiting London right now after a bit in Ireland.

I think Fred’s initial attraction to Mary makes sense when you look at pictures of his beloved grandmother Ingrid. There is a fairly strong resemblance. Often men end up marrying their mothers, Fred was far more attached to his Mormor so he ended up marrying her. https://royalwatcherblog....ingrids-diamond-earrings/

Have a lovely time in London!

Oh, wow, I don't see any resemblance with QI and Yrma at all, not even when QI was young. Different face shape, eyes, and nose.

The problem is, Fred never wanted to marry Mary. It was an Olympic fling in OZ.

Mary then chased and tracked him down in CPH via Paris and even moved in with him while QM was on travels. After QM came home, she kicked Mary out of the palace, but Mary still kept chasing. And when the media kept picking up on them, QM said to either end the relationship or marry her.

Not that much to do with resembling Mormor.

If he really wasn't into her, why didn't he tell her it wasn't going to happen? I guess this would need to be taken a Mary and Fred section.

No resemblance. Mary has a Scottish fishmonger face.

Princess Raiyah

Wow, she's lovely.  And those earrings!   It's funny, she doesn't look like him but I see King Hussein in her expression.

The ladies in the picture are Japan's Princess Hisako (in blue) and Princess Tsuguko (in green)

They are mother and daughter.

According to Wikipedia:

Hisako, Princess Takamado (憲仁親王妃久子, Norihito Shinnōhi Hisako) (born Hisako Tottori (鳥取久子, Tottori Hisako))(10 July 1953), is a member of the Japanese Imperial Family as the widow of Norihito, Prince Takamado

Norihito, Prince Takamado (高円宮憲仁親王, Takamado-no-miya Norihito Shinnō, 29 December 1954 – 21 November 2002) was a Japanese member of the Imperial House of Japan and the third son of Takahito, Prince Mikasa and Yuriko, Princess Mikasa. He was a first cousin of Emperor Akihito, and was seventh in line to the Chrysanthemum Throne at the time of his death.

The couple had three daughters:

Princess Tsuguko (承子女王, Tsuguko Joō, born 8 March 1986 at Aiiku Hospital in Tokyo)
Princess Noriko (典子女王, Noriko Joō, born 22 July 1988 at Aiiku Hospital in Tokyo); following her marriage to Kunimaro Senge, a commoner, on 5 October 2014, Princess Noriko gave up her imperial title and left the Imperial Family as required by 1947 Imperial Household Law, took the surname of her husband and became known as "Noriko Senge" (千家典子, Senge Noriko).[1]
Princess Ayako (絢子女王, Ayako Joō, born 15 September 1990 at Aiiku Hospital in Tokyo); following her marriage to Moriya Kei, a commoner, on 29 October 2018, Princess Ayako gave up her imperial title and left the Imperial Family as required by 1947 Imperial Household Law, took the surname of her husband and became known as "Ayako Moriya" (守谷絢子, Moriya Ayako).

Thanks Princi!  They are both so elegant and I am very unfamiliar with that side of the Japanese Royal Family.

And what we are seeing between the princess and her daughter is an example of the difference nutrition has made between the immediate post-war generation and the following generation. I've noticed this in the Japanese students I've taught over the years as well.

A bit O/T : I discovered Princess Takamado at the Swedish royal weddings - she attended both Madeleine and CP's representing the Japanese Imperial family. She was one of the best-dressed guests every time, very elegant and classy, with a very lovely smile. A real asset for the imperial family  Banana
