So interesting to hear all those stories from the Middle East from you, Rita.

Judging from the photos there seems to be a huge age gap too between them. I assume the Al Maktoums men like younger women as they think they can control them better.

The story of this princess should come as a warning to Haya. Obviously the hatred against women, free choice of life and overall anything that isn't deemed appropriate by the men runs in the family.
This why i never will understand Haya decision to marry Mo,there was to many not "pleasant" stories about the man and his family but she ignored all that and her family warning and jumped in this marriage not only risking her life but the one of her kids too...amazing really

I guess she either thought she could change him and that it wouldn't be so bad or she was blinded by the money, by love or both.
Maybe
But we will never know...

IMO She expected she would be treated differently than other women as a princess in her own right and daughter/sister of the king.

I imagine that was part of her thinking too, yes. And that her brother as King of Jordan would protect her...and, and, and...clearly Haya failed in politics.

The daughter of Dubai's ruler who tried to flee the country in 2018 later sent secret video messages to friends accusing her father of holding her "hostage" as she feared for her life.

In footage shared with BBC Panorama, Princess Latifa Al Maktoum says commandos drugged her as she fled by boat and flew her back to detention.

The secret messages have stopped - and friends are urging the UN to step in.

Dubai and the UAE have previously said she is safe in the care of family.

Ex-UN rights envoy Mary Robinson, who had described Latifa as a "troubled young woman" after meeting her in 2018, now says she was "horribly tricked" by the princess's family.

The former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and president of Ireland has joined calls for international action to establish Latifa's current condition and whereabouts.

"I continue to be very worried about Latifa. Things have moved on. And so I think it should be investigated," she said.

I think tricked is a harsh word, but Haya certainly was naive by marrying him.

You might be right Rita. She probably thought that he wouldn’t dare mess with her because of her family. Wrong.

I believe Haya was well aware of the mess and shadiness surrounding him, but as you said she believed her status as Princess of Jordan would give a safe/free pass.

I don't know if haya was fully aware of what was going on, but, yes, as you all have said, she relied on her status.
The good part is that it seems she escaped and she fights back to protect her children - of course he status plaes a role in this.

As for Latifah, I'm so sorry. It's been a mess, she cannot live her life, she cannot live any life.
I'm very curious how she managed to grab a phone and then to upload the video, how she gained access.
Do we know anything about her older sister, Shamsa? Is she alive?

eta: Haya's case may help the sisters, I do wish for a better outcome in their cases.

I think Haya thought the Jordanian Royal family was equal
.... no way... not in status or wealth.... and The King is guided by his wife.... Haya is not his sister from the same mother and apparently married despite advice not to... what did she think would happen? At least she got enough money away from Dubai to start a new life but will never be free .... and her children could be taken at any time
