Without the oil UAE would have been just another country of extreme poverty. I just can't with them. For each princess parading her wealth there are thousand of oppressed women.
By coincidence I had a talk once with the 'women organisation' of SABIC (a Saudi diversified manufacturing company, active in petrochemicals, chemicals, industrial polymers, fertilizers, and metals). It was not clear to me if they spoke for whole SABIC or only the European part. But it came across to me that there was still a small number of women working at SABIC in comparison to men. Especially at positions, previously (and some still are) considered to be male-positions. For example engineers at R&D and technical sites.
