I don't think we've had a thread on CG's paternal grandmother Margaret, later Crown Princess Margareta. I think her story was tragic but at the same time beautiful as she married for love and was very happy. She never became queen and never knew that her son didn't live to be king either.

Margaret was born Margaret Victoria Augusta Charlotte Norah on 15 January 1882 in Bagshot Park and baptised in the Private Chapel of Windsor Castle on 11 March 1882 by The Archbishop of Canterbury. Her godparents were Queen Victoria (her paternal grandmother); The German Emperor (her maternal great-granduncle, who was represented by the German Ambassador, Count M?nster); the German Crown Princess (her paternal aunt, who was represented by her sister, Princess Christian of Schleswig-Holstein); Prince and Princess Friedrich Karl of Prussia (her maternal grandparents, for whom her paternal uncle the Duke of Edinburgh and aunt The Princess Beatrice stood proxy); and the Prince of Wales (her paternal uncle).

Her parents were Queen Victoria's favourite son, Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Princess Louise Margaret of Prussia.

Margaret, or Margareta in Sweden, with her husband Gustaf Adolf, and their eldest son, Gustaf Adolf, CGs father.

She's among my favorite grandchildren of QV - she and Princess Pat had divergent lives, but both seemed to find happiness. Many of their cousins weren't as lucky.

They were also uniquely beautiful - not the longer-faced trend of many of the other family beauties (Alix, Ella, Ducky, Ena), but the rounder, somewhat dish-faced influence of their mother with those fantastic sleepy eyes.

Interesting to think what would have happened if Original Daisy hadn't died so young.

It's so sad that she died while pregnant and before her husband ascended the throne. Would have been nice if she had been queen like her cousin Maud. Two British princesses in Scandinavian thrones!

Our own Daisy's mother Ingrid, princess of Sweden and later Queen of Denmark.

In young Ingrid I see a resemblance to both queen Anne-Marie and princesse Josephine.

I believe in the picture it's Ingrid with her mother. Smiley
