13:00 EDT
On Monday morning April left the barn and spent time in the yard. Did the same thing this morning and early afternoon. (Poor Oliver hasn't had any time yet today.) The vets are ''waiting for increased pacing to indicate an active labor situation has begun, in addition to pushing/contractions.'' April has been moving around the yard instead of standing at the barn door as she did when it was first opened. More watchful waiting. Temp is 84F (29C) at noon in the animal park. Chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon.

12 April  02:50
April is laying down resting on the floor of her pen.
However, she is paying close attention to her underbelly, 'checking' parts.
She has rested her head on her haunch, looking as though she is sleeping.
She has moved her head to the bottom of her leg.
What a contortionist!
Head raised back up on fully extended neck.
The belly is moving.
Perhaps something will happen today?

16 April 01:30 EDT
April is continuously pacing around her pen this evening but slowly as if her knees were sore. She has paused a few times with hind legs further apart than usual but returns to normal stance and slow pacing. Neck stretching up and downwards seem more often than last week. Oliver is awake and standing at the pen partition. He is usually quiet and resting at this time. April's pen is fully illuminated unlike previous nights. No dark space to rest in except closest to the loft. April visits her feeding station under the camera so there are occasional views of her head as she has a bite to eat.

Both giraffes were outside today. April takes her time getting out of her pen after the barn door is opened unlike Oliver who wastes little time going out the door. Both animals sniff the door edges before they are opened. Spring aromas must be in the air sifting through the opening as well as other animal noises.

Niece and her 2 friends were watching the live feed today. They called me and asked if I was watching. (No not at the moment.) They think April needs a nice back and neck massage. I asked how they would do that 6-10 feet off the ground. They would wait until she lays down. Since their moms liked a nice massage when pregnant, they thought April would too. Then they thought some herbal tea in her water bowl would help. So I asked how many litres will you brew. Oops, don't have a big enough pot to do that. In the end they decided if they were near April's home they would serenade her with lullabys and their favorite a cappella rounds and maybe some quiet hymns to make her feel relaxed. [I wanted to send hugs through the phone.]

None of the children have ever seen a giraffe. Even though they have seen the keepers in the pen with the animals, they still don't have a sense of how tall giraffes are. My niece does not believe me when I tell her that she could feed April from her second floor bedroom window. Going to a zoo and seeing giraffes (and otters, alpacas, and bison) have been added to the 'things to do this summer' list.

1:43 AM April is still pacing but with a wider stance on her hind legs more often. I saw the recordings y-day and she seemed a little out-of-it. If she was human I'd say she was daydreaming or pre-occupied with a thought.

April (and we) wait.

If you want to know what the vet says, follow a vet named Ev Sharp on Facebook. She is a friend of Dr. Tim who visits April every day and shares his latest updates.
