Today WA hosts a gala dinner for regular Dutch people who celebrate a round birthday this year, and tomorrow the private celebrations with friends and royal guests begin. Tomorrow there's a morning of sports and a dinner and dancing afterward, and on Sunday a brunch. They're private events, but they'll probably release some photos.

We know that they've invited royals in their age group regardless of status. Victoria and Daniel and Felipe and Letizia are going. As far as I know they are the only royals whose information departments have confirmed it, but it's very likely that everyone that attended the last "complete" heirs meeting (an annual event) will attend. Since it was a special meeting because it was the last one before Beatrix's abdication and it took place in The Netherlands they released a picture:

Spanish press reported this morning that the Royal Household confirmed their presence Wink

One of the reporters that confirmed it is the TVE correspondent on the palace.

When Casa Real sent next week's agenda to the royal reporters this morning, they added that on Saturday and Sunday they'll be in The Netherlands for the private birthday celebration of WA. On the other hand they're not going to Norway for the 80th birthdays. Felipe has events on May 9 and 10 in Spain, and on the 11th is Infanta Alicia's funeral. I imagine that JC and Sofia will go the first day. This time I can't even be disappointed, who thinks picking a Tuesday and a Wednesday is a good idea to celebrate a birthday? Even royal weddings are (usually) on Saturdays.

My brain saw sporting events with a tiara... well, with this doodoo-head (aka Mares), it's possible she'd try.

Here's the link to the gigapixel photo that was made after the King's birthday dinner last night. In the middle you can see the 150 (+2 of course) birthday boys and girls, and the others in the pic were people that wandered onto Dam Square around 10 pm to be in the pic, too.

https://gigapixel.nl/wa50/

Check it out. It's effin AWESOME!

(also, knowing there were 11,000 applications for the dinner, I am happily surprised how they managed to 'draw' (allegedly they did not 'select') a group of 150 that is quite representative of the 'over 19s' group in our country. Gotta love the 50 y/o twins in the salmon coloured scarves!

In a few days, the setting on Dam Square will be quite different, when we commemorate the fallen at the National Monument on May 4. And it will be even more crowded.

But for now, let's hope for some interesting dishing during the royal private birthday bash
