To make the gown a little less '80s, Princess Anne redesigned the sleeves of this dress and rewore it with black gloves to the Save the Children Festival of Trees at London's Natural History Museum in the 2000s. Fur-Lined Coat This blue fur-lined coat has seen Princess Anne through five decades worth of winters. In her 20s, she wore it to the 1976 wedding of Chris Collins and Susanne Lumb. After that, it reappeared at an event in 1983. It went on to become her go-to look for Christmas morning services in Sandringham. She wore it on Christmas Day not just in 2003 and 2006, but also in 2008 and 2012, with a similar hat and knee-high black boots. Like they say, if it's not broken, don't fix it. Yellow Floral Dress Princess Anne also has a go-to look for summertime weddings. The Princess Royal debuted this knee-length dress embellished with ruffles and yellow flowers at the July 1981 wedding of her brother, Prince Charles, to Princess Diana. Nearly 27 years later to the date, she wore the dress again with white shoes and a yellow hat to the wedding of her cousin, Lady Rose Windsor, to George Gilman on July 19, 2008. Beige Skirt Suit This beige skirt suit with a patterned blazer and matching hat was a mainstay in Princess Anne's '80s and '90s wardrobe. She not only wore it to the Royal Ascot twice (in 1988 and 1994), but also donned it for the Heads Of State ceremony in May 1995 and to another event in July 1997. After a 17-year break, the skirt suit was spotted again at the Royal Ascot on June 18, 2014. Cream and Navy Coat The classic lines and color palette of this cream and navy coat make it another springtime favorite of Princess Anne's that she's been able to rewear throughout the decades. She first wore it to the Royal Ascot on June 17, 1980, and again to the Derby at Epsom Downs on June 5, 1985, with the same small white hat. The Princess Royal revisited the coat in 2015—this time with a broad-rimmed hat—when she wore it to two different garden parties at Buckingham Palace, including one on May 28, 2015, and another on June 11, 2015. She rewore the same outfit again on March 12, 2018, to the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey. Orange Skirt Suit Apparently one orange hat is not enough. Princess Anne has worn this cream skirt suit with orange trim with a few different toppers throughout the years. For Trooping the Colour on June 13, 1987, she paired the outfit with a small white and orange hat, while she opted for a broad cream chapeau to shade her face on June 5, 2008, at the Founders Day Parade at Chelsea Royal Hospital. For a church service held on April 17, 2012, in honor of Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee in Pretoria, South Africa, the Princess Royal accessorized the skirt suit with a large orange hat. After that, she wore the outfit sans hat to attend the Centenary Annual Meeting of the National Federation Of Women's Institute at Royal Albert Hall in London on June 4, 2015, and again at Royal Ascot on June 18, 2025. Blue Dress Coat Princess Anne's spring wardrobe isn't just about neutrals. She first wore this teal blue dress coat to the Ascot Races on June 20, 1991. She styled it the exact same way—down to the hat, brooch, gloves and shoes—to Princes Charles's wedding to Camilla at Guildhall in Windsor on April 9, 2005. Embellished Purple Gown Never one to keep things subtle, Princess Anne wore this lavender gown with a sequined top to an event at the Royal Albert Hall in London in December 1989. She swapped the choker for a different necklace when she rewore the gown on January 10, 2005, to a dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London to raise money for the Save the Children fund. Yellow Dress Coat A timeless staple, this pale yellow double-breasted coat has seen Princess Anne through four decades. She first wore it to the Trooping the Colour festivities on June 14, 1980, with a broad-rimmed hat in the same color. She recreated the same outfit for the Derby in 1983. It didn't make an appearance in the '90s, but the Princess Royal brought it out again for the Central Benevolent Fund garden party in 2007, as well as the Royal Ascot in 2011 and 2015. Navy and Cream Plaid Coat Another navy and cream look, this plaid coat and skirt combo has been a reliable Easter look for the Princess Royal over the years. She wore the look with a complementary hat for a church service at Windsor Castle in 2003, and again in 2012 for the same event—this time with a pop of bright blue in her scarf. Lavender Coat Proving that an investment coat doesn't have to be a basic color like black or navy, Princess Anne wore this purple number to at least six public events from 1982 to 2004. First, she wore it on November 16, 1982, to welcome Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands for a state visit. About a year later, on November 2, 1983, she wore it to the unveiling of the Mountbatten Memorial Statue in London. In the '90s, the purple coat made appearances at the Commonwealth Day observance service at Westminster Abbey on March 9, 1992, and at a lunch at the Royal Naval College in Greenwich on November 20, 1997. Most recently, Princess Anne wore it on Christmas Day at Sandringham in 2001, and again on Christmas 2004, without the belt this time. Floral Jacket and Pink Dress For her turn as the mother of the bride, Princess Anne wore this pleated pink dress with a coordinating floral jacket to the wedding of her daughter, Zara Phillips, to Mike Tindall at Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh, Scotland on July 30, 2011. The following year, she swapped the wedding day fascinator for a brimmed hat and rewore the look to the Royal Ascot on June 20, 2012. Patterned Green Coat A more recent favorite, this green coat paired with a jaunty hat and slouchy boots shows that Princess Anne is one of the more adventurous members of the royal family when it comes to fashion. She first wore the ensemble to the Cheltenham Festival on March 16, 2012. The next year, she wore it—sans hat—to the Afghanistan Operational Service Medals parade on May 24, 2013, in Abingdon, England. Three years later in 2016, she chose it as her Christmas Day outfit. As a throwback to the outfit's debut, she wore it to the Cheltenham Festival 2020 on March 13 earlier this year. Purple Dress and Floral Coat If you obsessively followed every detail of Kate Middleton and Prince William's 2011 wedding, you're probably well acquainted with this purple-and-green floral number that Princess Anne wore to the historic event. But did you know that she's reworn the dress and coat combo twice since? She added a pair of gloves and darker shoes to the outfit for the Ladies Day of Royal Ascot on June 21, 2012, and matched it with beige pumps again for a garden party at Buckingham Palace on May 28, 2015. Navy and Yellow Coat A spin on her go-to cream and navy color palette, Princess Anne has worn this pale yellow and navy coat with its matching striped hat five times starting with an Easter service at Windsor Castle in 2007. She brought it out of her closet again in 2009 for the Royal Ascot, and 10 years later for the 2019 wedding of her cousin Lady Gabriella Windsor to Thomas Kingston at Windsor's St George's Chapel. Most recently, she wore it while visiting New Zealand in February 2023, and meeting a giant tortoise on the island of Jersey in July 2023. Green Pussybow Blouse Princess Anne has been rewearing this green pussybow blouse with a coordinating skirt suit for nearly three decades. As the patron of the Save the Children Fund, Princess Anne wore it to the Circle Of Friends Annual Blanket Thanksgiving Service on February 27, 1991. Then, she was photographed in it holding a falcon at an event on June 26, 1999, and again for a visit to Greenacre School in Surrey on May 17, 2001. After a long break, she dug it out of her closet for the Royal Windsor Horse Show on May 10, 2019. Pale Green Dress Coat While there were often years—or even decades—between many of Princess Anne's wardrobe repeats, she repeated this fresh green coat within two weeks. On June 20, 2019, she wore it to Ladies Day of Royal Asccot, and on July 3, 2019, she recreated the same outfit down to the shoes to attend a garden party hosted by her mother, Queen Elizabeth II, at the Palace Of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, Scotland. Green Dress with Embroidery At the 2023 Royal Ascot, Princess Anne once again proved she's the master of repeats, re-wearing a green dress she wore to Ascot five years earlier, in 2015. She switched up the hats and the accessories, however. Light Blue Dress Anne's dedication to rewears is impressive: the Princess Royal wore the same light blue dress in 1978 (during a visit by the President of Botswana), in 2022 (to visit Brompton Cemetery), and once more in 2023 at the Royal Ascot. Yellow Plaid Coat This yellow plaid coat has been in Anne's wardrobe since the 1980s. Here, she wears the coat to Easter Service at Windsor Castle in 1987, Royal Ascot in 1988, a trip to the Russia in 1990, and most recently at the Palace of Holyroodhouse following a National Service of Thanksgiving and Dedication to the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla in July 2023.
