The Crown, season II

I just finnished and I loved it, great acting by Claire Foy. What I thought this season missed was of course the supporting acting of Winston Churchill, her next Prime minsters were a bunch of grey men with no charisma. I wish she would have told them in them like in the series they were to old, to weak and a bunch of quitters, but i doubt she really did it. Cant wait to see how the portray her relationship with Margareth Thatcher.

 I though the filming and the cross clipping of several events were so beautifully done.

I also wonder about the historical events, i seriously did not know about Wallis and David visiting Hitle and was kind of shocked to see the photos in the end...was he really planting to stage a coup against his brother? The Suez canal crisis was also interesting.

I love how Netflix has sort of made a new standard for series, they get the best actors, lots of money, and when you have ten hours instead of two in a movie, you can devellop the characters much more than you could forinstance in the Queen with Helen Mirren, which was a good portrait, but did not go deep like this series does.

Here you get more of an insight into how it must be to be Queen at such a young age, with litle education, beeing shy, having to deal with lots of proud old men, and manage her family, including her spoiled and overindulged sister.. BTW i found margareths wedding dress the most disappointing costume so far in the series, it looked very flat and cheap compared to the many great costumes this series has had so far.  Looking forward to the new season and the  new Queen

I didnt' "get" the casting of Matt Smith until there were a few profile shots or long shots where he looks, to me at least, very similar to Harry who has quite a bit of his gf in his face too. Then that definitely made sense. Who will be the new PP?

And yes, I too was swooning over the guy who played A A-J. Yooohooo! I think it was the lips and his mouth, but the total package was definitely not bad at all!

I watched the first episode of the 2nd season! Finally!!!!

Claire Foy is a remarkable actress, I'll miss her in the next seasons.

I just finished season 2 and really enjoyed it. I'm going to miss Claire Foy as well. She is superb! I must say that Prince Philip didn't come across very well at all! The ending was nice though.
I also like the story lines involving Margaret. I can't wait for season 3 but I am nervous about new actors playing these roles. I would have preferred some really good aging make up work at least for another season.

No, never got around to it. I usually only have mental space for one British historical frock piece at a time, and just never quite caught on to DA.

2. IDK if it is the writing vs reality, but the Queen is hardly shown interacting with the children. She is instead ultra focussed on the DOE. Almost obsessed with him. 
3. I came away with a healthy respect for the DOE and his accomplishments.
4. Princess Margaret. What a brat ! IDK if that is reality as well.
5. I came away feeling sorry for the entire lot of them. It's like a gilded prison. People like the DOE have to sacrifice accomplishments to fit in, the Queen when she talks about her inadequate education, Princess Margaret and her numerous heart aches. Prince Charles being made to fit into something he is not. It actually helped me understand the current lot better.
6. The Crown must win, must always win is BS. 
7. I very much question the relevancy of the monarchy after the Crown which I don't think was the intent of the series.

2. It is quite accurate. She wasn't very "hands-on"; which was the case for all of the upper class. That's all what the nanny(ies) was for, Liz & Phil spent and hour here and there with them every day.

4. Margaret was much worse than shown. If she entered a party, people had to clap, no one was ever allowed to leave before her; if she didn't like your food you cooked she'd put out her cigarette in it; she wouldn't let a pregnant woman use the loo (or was it leave the party becase the pregnant woman had back pain?, anyway, very unkind); and there are numerous more stories like these. She was a first class btch. For all the airs and graces she put on and saw herself as above everyone in "breeding" (even her own mother, because Marg was "the daughter of a king and sister of a queen" and therefore unique and precious), she sure as heck behaved as common and low-class as they come. She was a dreadful human being.

6. Personally, sure, but in reality it still is like that. The crown and establishment before everything and everyone else, it is more important than even the monarch themself.

I think The Crown does a marvellous job and is quite true to life and as much so as they could possibly be (research etc).

If that's true it's an improvement legacy still followed.

I've said this elsewhere but I LOVED  the part of The Crown where it showed Lord Mountbattan being the one who showed Charles how important tailoring was to a good outfit.

No idea if it's true, but I was a nice character moment.   

I particularly liked the scene where Mountbatten went to visit Charles at Gordonstoun, and took a picnic to share.  I hope that incident was true.

I found out about her a few days before I start the current season and her face is familiar, although I can't remember where I've seen her. I'm sure she is great actress, it's just that I connected Foy's appearence, accent and voice with the role and it would be hard to adjust to the new actors. But I'm anticipating!

In the Crown, it is hinted that Churchill supported the King Edward, the one who abdicated to stay on. I saw a movie recently where Churchill who is not in power then strongly asks him to stay as he will be a good king and the people like him. Churchill also seems appalled that the allowance is cut off to the King after QEII's father's death ? What was Churchill's relationship with King Edward before WWII  and after ?
