PRINCE HARRY AND MS. MARKLE TO VISIT REPREZENT 107.3FM
Brixton, London

Tuesday 9th January, 2018

Prince Harry and Ms. Markle will visit Reprezent 107.3FM in Brixton, to see their work supporting young people through creative training in radio and broadcasting, and to learn more about their model of using music, radio and media for social impact.

The Reprezent training programme was established in Peckham in 2008, in response to an alarming rise in knife crime, to help young people develop and socialise through radio. Since then, it has transformed into a hotbed of UK music talent. Training hundreds of young people every year in media and employment skills, over 4,000 young people have been through the Reprezent programme, with over 3,000 on the waiting list. It offers accredited training and support in topics ranging from audio and radio production and editing to communication skills and confidence building, work experience and volunteering.

Throughout training Reprezent offers personalised support to enable young people to fulfil their potential, and to progress to further education and employment opportunities. They also offer programmes supporting young people with specific issues like mental health challenges, having recently launched a regional mental health programme with a network of schools.

Many of the young people who complete training can progress onto volunteering roles as presenters and producers on Reprezent 107.3FM, and many of their young talent progress their careers with employment at some of the most prestigious media companies in the UK. Reprezent secured an FM radio licence in 2011 and the majority of their playlist is unsigned, with many artists broken via Reprezent continuing to achieve the highest music industry success. The DJs and presenters work in the music industry, run their own clubs nights and produce their own music. Reprezent also provides platforms outside of the station for their young adults to grow including working with major UK Festivals and collaborating with global artists, record labels and key youth brands. They also campaign on a range of issues affecting young people and provide a relevant platform for young people to be heard.

Prince Harry and Ms. Markle will visit the Reprezent FM studios at POP Brixton. During their visit to the station, they will meet some of the presenters, content producers and staff, hear more about their training programmes, and meet some of the current and former volunteers who have benefitted from the training.

Star  wisdomheaven! How wonderful to see them getting straight to work after the holidays!! And, what a wonderful organization!! "supporting young people through creative training in radio and broadcasting, and to learn more about their model of using music, radio and media for social impact."  I love it!

OrangeOrchids - it seems not as she wasn't included in the CC for the Nottingham visit.

I think that she'll appear in the CC only once married in, exception might be engagement announcement, but the very first (or possibly second if engagement counts) entry will be the wedding.

No, Meghan will not appear in the CC until after the wedding.

The engagement annoucement was not a part of Harry's CC and I doubt the wedding will be since it isn't a state affair.

The wedding should appear in the CC regardless of whether it is a state wedding or not, because apart from counting engagements, the CC records all major life events too: birth, wedding, death.

Sorry, but I cannot take visits like this too serious. They show up for maybe half an hour -all smiles and doing jokes -and then leave.
And everybody is told that this visit will make a change for those young people , for the broadcaster, for sponsoring?
I guess they call it: raising awareness.
Prove me wrong but the only awareness that will be raised is what Meghan wore  and how she and Harry looked and interacted with each other.

I guess it is Harry who chooses his appointments and the places he would like to go.
Youth Radio is quite perfect for him as he behaves mostly like a 16 year old guy.
I guess he will again do some on air moderation. It seems like something he likes to do. There he got a first taste of what WORK might mean? Roll Eyes

Maybe they already plan a Royal Broadcasting Company!

It's similar to projects Harry has supported over the years in Nottingham, getting kids to create things. Good idea.

What kind of support is this? To show up for a photo opp. and smile and be nice. Wow. It takes a lot to do this.
Sorry, I am not impressed.
This so called support or "awareness raising" ( thats what they constantly do-but no one ever remembers the charities they visited) is nothing but PR.
I do not say that he is not interested, but in most cases it is just support for the Royals.
Because if there is one thing they need , it is good PR to keep this system going.
Those charities or organisations would be totally fine without this kind of support...IMO
But if you are the director of a Broadcasting Company you probably do not say no if you get a request from Kensington Palace, do you...

I also hope (fingers crossed) that  this is the beginning of her networking or creating of her blueprint of her charities of interest. Somehow, someway there will be a nod to her mother and her grandmother throughout her work. Personally speaking as a Social Worker, if I could get the Wicked Witch of the West to bring "awareness* " to a a cause I would do it.  *Awareness brings media, media brings attention, attention brings networking, networking brings volunteers/ money , any or all of those are winners for underfunded and unrecognizable programs.

Yes, especially being Meghan's the new girl so hopefully it will bring attention to these underfunded projects, charities, and so on. It's why I've had issues with other royals who do next to nothing. Just showing up is an unbelievable boon for these places because of all the attention they get for days afterwards in print media, the news, blogs, online, etcetera.

Well, they stayed in Nottingham for about 3.5-4 hours, so hopefully it will be something similar. I agree with Ellie that raising awareness or opening things (hospitals, factories, schools) is basically what all royals do (other than the queen who also has parliamentary duties). Not sure why these two should be held to a higher standard...
