I thought it could be fun to share in this thread very far back articles about Mary Donaldson. I love looking way back in the forgotten troves of internet archives.

Here I have found a little piece about her, dated 28 November 2001. Original in Danish, but I'm quoting in English, obviously:

Quote
Mary rays of happiness

Crown Prince Frederik's girlfriend, Mary Donaldson, is so slow to get used to the limelight and finds it fun that she "has become world famous in Denmark". It told Mary to the Picture-Sheet.

Mary and Crown Prince Frederik have many common interests. They are both sporty, they like to dive - and then they run. Like Frederik, the start of a good day for Mary is a quick run early in the morning.

Or how about this one? Dated 21 November 2001
Quote
"My daughter loves Frederik."
Read the magazine's great interview with Mary Donaldson's parents who invited [us] inside their townhouse in Oxford, England.
Math professor John Donaldson and Mary's stepmother, author Susan Moody, currently living in Chester Street in Oxford, accepted [us] for a delightful chat about their daughter Mary, 29, and perhaps Denmark's future crown princess. "The most important thing for us is Mary's happiness. We are of course happy that she has found the one she loves. But we could never dream of interfering with our daughter's love life."
This week in Billed Bladet you can also read about Mary's visit to the Queen's winery in France this summer.

Spanish ˇHola! article from November 2001, says Prince Fred took a "secret" vacation of 14 days. He and his "Australian girlfriend" (without naming Mary) "took refuge north of the Great Barrier Reef." They suspected she was a "lawyer based in Sydney" Laughing The "Sydney lawyer" speculation came after it was initially suspected she was some kind of "elite sailor" of Scottish descent. (This is funny! Well, they got the Scottish descent thing.)
His chief of staff, Per Thornit, refused to answer questions from the Danish media about the trip.  "Newspapers and magazines that knew the fact that he had come to see him off at Kastrup airport. Not in vain, the report describes, in detail, that Mr. Thornit was accompanied by the assistant cameraman, Federico Knud Momme." It says that Fred had requested the time off from the Defense Academy. The press approached his captain for a comment and the captain said it was not his business what Fred does with his time off, and he would only confirm the time had been granted.

In 2003, I did not even notice (at the time) how the press would call her a "lawyer", especially the Spanish press, because of her bachelor degree in laws. "The lawyer Mary"... still makes me chuckle. I suppose it is technically correct, no less than a BSN being called a nurse, but here in the United States we have such a high bar for the title of lawyer. Even with the law degree (three years postgraduate) you aren't esquire until you pass the Bar.

She was never a lawyer, and her degree wouldn’t have allowed her to practise law - it was a business degree, with business and property law.

Sugars and press often address her as Princess and yes as a well successful attorney, lol

She did actually have a law degree under the Australian system. With one year of articles or of practical legal training  after this degree she would have been eligible to practise.

Mary does have a bachelor of laws from UTas. I am a lawyer in Sydney. I know many lawyers from Tasmania but most of them went to universities on the mainland,. I am not sure that an LLB from Tasmania is particularly highly prized, but she does have one,

Does Tasmania/Australia require an exam-based license (post degree) to practice law?

Mary has a combined LLB in Comerce and Law. After the degree she would need an additinal 6 month Legal Practice course. She never did the course and because of it, she was never eligible to practice law. After University, she worked mostly for advsertising/marketing companies with not relation to anything on Law field.

No Royal Me there is not an exam based licence. People with an LLB (bachelor of laws) need to complete a 6 month practical legal training course to be admitted as a solicitor.

So she really was a girl who loved food, casual clothes and either trainers or low heeled heeled shoes.

She must be so miserable now.
