The King is furious over Daniel's decision about Estelle
The king and his son-in-law Daniel are at odds with one another
The monarch strongly disagrees with the choices the son-in-law makes for Princess Estelle.
"The friction is growing stronger in the family," a source says.https://stoppapressarna.s...sande-over-daniels-beslut
Prince Daniel, 44, is a modern man of the people who is tired of all the royal customs and traditions. Therefore, he is very keen to teach princess Estelle, 5, how "ordinary" people live. Last year, for example, he introduced the daughter to the Stockholm metro. He has also brought her to sports matches of various kinds.
- I also think it's important to let the kids experience all kinds of environments. One should know how the metro works and how it is to go by bus, what it's like to stand in a queue and what it's like to feel this passion for the sport when going to a match. That's something I do not want them to miss out on.
However, King Carl Gustaf, 71, does not appreciate Daniel "running around with an heir to the throne" and they have got into a fight over this a few times. But Daniel refuses to give up - which, in particular, his latest decision proves. Estelle will start pre-school in the fall, and the picturesque Djurgårdsskolan has been chosen. The K-labeled wooden villa has only 90 students and, to Daniel's and Victorias great joy, also a big focus on the environment. In addition, several of Estelle's preschool companions from nearby Villa Kvikjokk will also go to the same school.
Daniel has been a strong force behind the decision as he refuses to let Estelle go to a fancy upper class school.
- "He does not want her to go in a snobbish and old-fashioned institution. Victoria is obviously also involved in the decision, but it is Daniel who made all the research. She trusts his judgment, says a source to Hänt i Veckan.
One who does not trust his judgement, however, is the king who is said to be very upset about the controversial decision made by his son-in-law. The monarch instead thinks it is a matter of course that a person from the royal family should attend one of the traditional "upper class schools", such as Carlsson's school at Östermalm or Manilla School at Djurgården.
Another alternative, is the boarding house in Sigtuna where the king himself attended as a young boy.
- Daniel would never put Estelle in a boarding school. He wants to be close to his children. It will never happen, says the source.
That argument, however, is not good enough for the king who is frustrated that Daniel, but also Princess Sofia
, 33, does not take traditions and customs more seriously.
- The friction in the family is growing stronger, the source says.
