I know this sounds naive, but how can the police be so sure that it wasn't a murder that was staged to look like a suicide? In such a short amount of time. ( I read a lot of detective mysteries).

He may have left a note. But the police will have done a professional investigation. You are right though - there have been many “suicides” that have been murder.

Because he locked himself into an outbuilding before suiciding. His father had to break down the door, poor man.

The reason I'm skeptical is because 30 years ago my older brother was found dead in a hotel on his way to a conference, suicide they all said, 38 years old, a healthy man, some sleeping meds in his system. Later tests showed he had undiagnosed and asymptomatic heart condition which caused his death.

I suspect the police, and certainly the forensic and post mortem teams, probably know what they are doing more than we do.

there would be lots of forensic evidence that prove that.

my quesiton is how easy is it to get hold of a fire-arm in UK?

it's pretty difficult in australia - unless you're a farmer.

I wonder if Ella had nay inklink of his inner turmoil?

What horrible news. His poor parents, my heart breaks for them and Ella too.
I'm surprised the Kents could be at the memorial service for Constantine knowing what happened. Looking back at the pictures from the memorial they both look so sad.

Maybe they hunted.  Pretty hard here too unless you're a hunter or a farmer.

Sadly death by suicide was my guess given his age and overall healthy appearance. But I hoped I was wrong.

Its quite heartbreaking for his family and friends.  Its something that leaves behind so much guilt and pain for those who continue on. Hopefully they are able to pull together and support each other.

Doing it at home causing terrible additional grief instead of out in a forest is pretty dreadful.

Well finding a suicider in the woods while walking your dog isn't exactly fun either.
I’d rather find a stranger than a family member.

I think it's common to want to be found. And I've known someone who also went to their mother's. They're not thinking strait in that dark moment, or think it'll effect anyone. I hope it was not his family who found him.

Unfortunately ~ by the time that decision is reached, the depths that the suicidal mind touches down on completely wipes out rational thought.

They may possibly have been existing on a wave of shock the day of the service. If it were me in Lady Gabriella’s position I could see myself asking them to go if they were at all able considering Constantine was my godfather. I’ve read Gabriella and Constantine did have a close relationship. That may have been important to her and as her parents I would absolutely have pulled myself together enough to do that for her.

Most definitely on all counts. I admire the stiff upper lip, Marie-Christine does look in a state of shock and Michael looks very concerned for her in the only photo I saw of them there. They were keeping up appearances for the family until things could be sorted. Say what you will about them, their family always comes first. Not a fan of their's but in this case they have my sympathies.

amongst the country set there is a quite high level of gun owning for game shooting- I worked in a very rural area where there was a grouse and other game shooting and quite a number had firearms licences - it was recorded on the medical records and the police were supposed to assess whether they should have one etc - they had to be in a locked cupboard at home and the cupboard had to be bolted to the floor.

occasionally if the police were involved with "domestic disturbances" they would remove the guns and licences and similarly if the individual was in contact with mental health services.  Have to say it might have meant that some didn't seek help when needed as it may mean they lost the licence

there were a couple of local gunsmiths and one of them ended the same way as Thomas Kingston, if she had had problems then she would probably never have said it was her livelihood

A girl I went to uni with had an English aunt from a country “set”. She murdered her husband with a gun in the 1970s. Somehow managed to not go to jail. Of course guns were/are pretty common among the “hunt in’, shootin’, fishin’ “ set…

As I’ve just read in DM that they were selling their apartment in Notting Hill to move somewhere bigger, I wonder if they were getting ready to have a baby. And maybe he was not ready but found himself in an impass, as Gabriella’s age might have made the decision quite urgent.
That or financial worries.

I’m just speculating. I cannot imagine that someone with such a deep faith as described in the press would take his life. Who knows…
