Depression is a serious illness that can't be comprehended with rational thoughts. That makes it a very incidious disease. Neither money, fame, faith, ... can prevent you from becoming one of its victims. This death is a good example for it.

He was rich, successful, had a lovely wife, the best connections, faith ... all the basic incrediences for success and happiness. It just shows what the impact of depression can be.

Unfortunately depression makes no distinction between age, wealth etc.

It seems some are more vunerable to it, but still in general.

In some cases there is a hereditary source. A former sports mate of mine had a kind of hereditary despression within her family. She came across as a cheerful and positive woman, but was apparently also on watch by her surroundings (to check if she would show the signs).

PTSD might have been a reason for his depression since he was in Iraq and the events from that time might still haunting him. But there is help, as you stated, and weapons should have been kept away from him, although sadly to say if a person wants to take his own life there are other possibilties.

I cannot imagine that starting a family, Ella being 42 by now, would have caused the problem. They had been married for almost 5 years , discussions about wanting to have children or not would have been settled long ago, never ever would just that fact, moving to a bigger house and starting a family cause somebody to take his own life.

While we might never know what cause this sad tragedy, we also don’t know if the family building had anything to do with it. It’s not any of our business if they actively chose not to have children or if getting pregnant was something they were aspiring for but perhaps wasn’t working. But if they had been trying and were going through infertility, there have been a lot of studies from the UK on the mental health impact of infertility- nearly half of patients going through infertility have experienced suicidal thoughts and 10% have them most or all of the time (Fertility Network UK’ statistics)

While this might not have anything do with Thomas, the way that some of the news surrounding them (I read an article that said “they remained childless”) did make me wonder. Even if not, as someone who went through years of infertility I know it can have a huge impact on mental health. I hope this wasn’t the case for them, and had actively or positively chose not to have children, because infertility struggles are awful.

I would hope a line that is in a way quasi unnecessary in any other context like “they had no children” is at least a statement of fact that in an obituary is a way of saying the deceased left no descendants. I do not see alignment between a depressed man putting a gun to his head and fertility issues as onerous as they can be. Ella married Thomas at an older age they knew what they were up against from the start. Maybe they were ok with it not happening. IVF is straining emotionally and financially.

Would it be out of line to ask if the page is renamed to "Lady Gabriella Windsor" at this point in time?

Kingston, surely? Windsor hasn’t been her surname since she married.

I would like to see the topic renamed Lady Gabriella Kingston - News ...

I hope Thomas' family, and Gabriella are receiving all the support they need.  I hope no one in the family (her family) is essentially trying to push her away from feeling whatever she's feeling, and is letting her talk it through ... Somehow I could see Pushy being rather pushy and telling G to put on a brave face instead of letting her cry.  Perhaps that's unfair to Pcs Michael but she does seem to be a tonedeaf person from all her history.

We cannot erase Thomas or their marriage. Let's just put Ella news elsewhere and abandon this thread. I'm thinking archivally.

Yes.  Star

Just start a separate thread when needed.
