Sad news about Beverly Cleary, although 104 is certainly good innings!  I loved her books so much; even now I can visualize Ramona making her Q into a little cat, or singing "dawnzer lee light" in the National Anthem!  I couldn't believe that the NYT obituary opened by calling Ramona bratty!   Thumb down  I really enjoyed the NPR obit.

A fascinating, quick biography of Ms. Cleary is "A Girl From Yamhill."  I thoroughly enjoyed it!

The Last Picture Show - great book.  Good movie too.
