Could someone enlighten me as to where Letizia is? Has she gone home already? Was that planned or is there something going on at home? And if it was planned, what purpose was that?

It is odd indeed, but maybe they didn't want to leave the girls alone (without any parent in Spain, not that the girls were really alone, I'm sure Leti's mother was with them) for so many days. Just a thought.

Really the 2? events she participated in haven't appeared to me as important enough to warrant a trip around the world. Heck this is the age of carbon footprint awareness!

Yes, it was expected that she would return to Spain. The visit to Peru was a State Visit and Queen Letizia had to participate, but the programming with the late addition of the Paris event was bad. She has flown back and forth to Madrid on regular flights from Spanish companies Iberia and Air Europa.

This visit has been planned for some time, but probably the change of government in Spain and the change of President in Peru influenced its programming. It is normal that the agenda is not very full because the exchange of visits is very frequent, one president visits Spain and the next receives the king. In February, Peru is the guest country at the ARCO art fair in Madrid, and there is a tradition to invite the President of the country to a State Visit... if this is really the case, the king should visit first.

The Ibero-American Summit is a Summit of Heads of State and Government, for many years within the summit there was an official program for First Ladies, which Sofia normally attended. In 2014 they made a change in the summits, they began to be held every two years, they changed the format and the official program of First Ladies has been eliminated.

This year the wife of the President of Guatemala has organized some activities for companions, but only 4 wives participate (among them the wife of the President of Spain who loves attention, which has raised many comparisons in Spain) and is not part of the official program of the Summit.

I believe that the Royal House always tries to draw a line between the institutional or official, and the political. The invitation of a Head of State is not the same as the invitation of a wife of Head of State who does not really have an institutional role and invites in a private manner. It's like the case of Brigitte Macron's lunch on Sunday.

Wow! Thanks, Lula, for this background. Very interesting! I was wondering if you saw photos from the summit where all of the participants -- including Felipe -- were wearing matching long-sleeved white shirts? Interesting look for him . . . I wasn't sure why they were in matching outfits?

Those white shirts are "guayaberas", traditional shirts of some American countries, especially Caribbean. Juan Carlos has also worn it.

Once again thanks for the insight, Lula! Juan Carlos looks a bit more relaxed in his guayabera! Felipe looks a little uncomfortable!
