Charles does this type of thing quite openly. If you are going to write a big check to one of his charities, you get invited to a dinner party at High Grove or Clarence House.
This is not unusual with charity fund-raising, I understand. And it's perfectly fine IMO. It's only a problem if the object is for wealthy business people to buy access to influential individuals who can help them make even more money and the profits from the membership fee or ticket price all go into the facilitator's pocket instead of to a charity.

Yep, big difference if you do such a thing to generate money for a certain charity or project - a project that does not include building your house, wardrobe or sun tan.

Don't know where else to put this so will put it here.
I work nearish the College of Arms and walked past there tonight late, about 8pm. There was a chauffered Jag out front with insignia of the Queens Household on it (little plate like thing that sticks up from the roof of the car). No police nearby, and the car was behind the locked gates as it was after hours (normally they are open) and some folks were working up in some of the rooms. Made me wonder if it was just Garter ceremony planning or perhaps something more...

Yes, try to get in!
On a serious note, color me intrigued! I hope we find out soon what that's all about!

A big turn out for Easter Mass on the Queen's birthday, with Anne, Tim, Sophie, Ed, Bea, Andy, Autumn and Peter, Zara and Mike, The Cambs and Harry:
Kate is wearing her Easter outfit from the Australia tour, along with her wedding earrings.

I know it will be celebrated sometime in June, but still today is HM's real birthday. So best wishes to her.

Everybody looks good and happy. I hope Her Majesty is having good day for her brithday.
Sometimes the royal reporters don't know as much as they think. I was just reading how the Cambridges weren't coming to Easter in Windsor and here they are, lol.

Happy birthday to HM and Happy Easter!
Kate always worries me with how very, very thin she is. Sickly.
Zara looks great in pink!

Her Majesty looks great. Trust her to have matching hat to her coat :D Hard to believe she's already 93.
Good to see that so many turned out to attend.
