Joachim will move to Paris with his family for military training from September until the summer of 2020

http://kongehuset.dk/en/n...litary-training-in-france

The French minister of defense has invited His Royal Highness Prince Joachim to participate in France’s highest ranking military training course. In this connection, Prince Joachim and Her Royal Highness Princess Marie and the couple’s two children, Prince Henrik and Princess Athena, will move to Paris.
As of September of this year until summer of 2020, Prince Joachim will take part in France’s highest ranking military leadership training. The French minister of defense has invited the Prince to participate in the training following the state visit from France to Denmark last year, where one of the main themes was strategic partnerships in the areas of trade, culture and defense. The Prince is the first Danish officer to participate in this training.

The training takes place six days a week at École Militaire in Paris and consists of two parts, one by the Centre des Hautes Études Militaires (CHEM) [Center for Advanced Military Studies] and one by the Institut des Hautes Études de la Défense Nationale (IHEDN) [Institute for Higher National Defense Studies].

The majority of the studies will take place at CHEM and consist of military studies at the highest level. The training is for 30 selected officers with the rank of colonel or captain (N), and the main topics are strategic military leadership and international relations. The participants are primarily from France, plus some from France’s strategic partner countries.

The military studies are supplemented with studies at IHEDN in strategic leadership and public administration, with the addition of some 70 business leaders, parliamentarians and government officials, as well as representatives from the media. Here, international relations in the areas of trade, politics, culture and military disciplines are debated and discussed, just as crisis management and experience exchange are among the topics.

The additional training in France supplements Prince Joachim’s current post in the Danish Defence, where the Prince is special advisor to the chief of defense in relation to the reserve since 2015.

Prince Joachim and his family will move to Paris in summer.

The stay in France does not involve any changes in the couple’s ties to their patronages and partner organizations.

WOW....just WOW, that is amazing for him, and phantastic for the family.

The kids will experience a different culture, will probably go to an international or dan/french school, will strengthen their French (I have read they understand it completely, but don't speak it fluently).

Great exposure overall. I hope Felix & Nikolai will visit them very often.

Good for them.

In a weird way, I am a bit proud of Joachim.

Yes his royal birth helped his cause but he would not have been offered this opportunity if he didn't have the chops.

This is a tangible achievement and I bet QMII is exceedingly proud.  But this makes me wonder why his brother can't do even the barest minimum.

Great news! It will give this family a great opportunity to let their children experience their mother’s culture and country in full. The children will learn to speak fluently French, and Paris is a great city to live in. Very happy for them. It seems healthy to step away from the royal duties and the second fiddle for a while.  Thumb up

Not sure what's the real purpose for such a Training Course, but I'm all for living in a foreign country for a bit. The children will enjoy it tremenduously and will learn the language perfectly, esp. since Mom and Dad already speak french perfectly.

What a great opportunity for this wonderful family and a real honor for Joachim. He is the more regal of the brothers I'm sure the French have noticed it and this is their way of showing approval. Good opportunity for the kiddos in particular. I bet Mary is looking for an internship with the Australian army for her husband as we speak. I hope the family gives that chateau of Henrik's to Joachim and Marie how perfect would that be.

It seems very weird. Why would Joachim do a military training stint at his age with how he already has experience? Is it just a way for them to be in Paris, for Marie's sake maybe?

The invitation was made by President Emmanuel Macron during the State visit in Denmark last year.

For the first part of his life, Joachim has little choice in what he wanted to do : Schackenborg was gifted to him when he was eight...Joachim was consequently given an education and studies to be a 'gentleman farmer'.
Now that Schackenborg has been sold he has to find another occupation, and he already works in the military. That year in France is a good opportunity for him.

But I also believe Mosh is more than happy to remain the only full-time working princess in Denmark for one year at last.
That may help her a bit since she cannot hide the fact that Fred can't stand her any more and is less and less afraid to show it.

This is for Colonels and above (I'm guessing O-6 and above) in the US that average age for promotion to full Colonel is 45 (join at 23 plus 22 years in service) so Joachim is the right age.  Joachim has been in the reserves since 1990 (having joined the army in 1987) and his last recorded rank is Lieutenant Colonel (2011).  He's in the right ballpark.
