In their Instagram post, they said: "Regular photos of the royal family members are regularly taken. The images are used by the Royal Family and by Their Royal Highnesses's patronages."
I think they regularly release new official photos and there's not always a special reason but I'm not 100% sure.

They are also used by the Royal house for necessary images supplied to whatever.Most  neighboring Monarchies, Sweden for example, regularly updates the photos of family members in formal attire. I loved the one was it last year? with Madde of Sweden in the Aqua Kokoshnik tiara.
