Edward, Prince of Wales' tact and organizational abilities were given more scope at the time of Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. He was allowed to supervise the ceremonial details and the reception of the numerous foreign representatives.

King Edward VII was an effective speaker. At the first Privy Council meeting of his reign he had, as John Morley said, impressed his audience by his ability to speak fluently and spontaneously without a prepared script.
