Edward, Prince of Wales' tact and organizational abilities were given more scope at the time of Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. He was allowed to supervise the ceremonial details and the reception of the numerous foreign representatives.

King Edward VII was an effective speaker. At the first Privy Council meeting of his reign he had, as John Morley said, impressed his audience by his ability to speak fluently and spontaneously without a prepared script.

Interesting side note:  for about 7 years Alexandra Rose Day became an annual event, with a carriage ride through London by Alexandra being the chief celebration.  Despite the popularity of the day, and the funds it generated, Alexandra considered it a chore to drive through London greeting the rose sellers (which was a special part of the day for them).  However, she kept her feelings private, only complaining to family members about "that tiresome Rose Day."
