When they open the fundraising effort I definitely want to donate.

I am glad that most of the structure seems to have survived.

Trump just came up with the idea of using flying water tankers... but "must  act quickly".

I am so embarrassed by this person. This was deliberately provoking.

Anyway, my eyes have been glued to the TV since early this afternoon. My heart is broken and I grieve for what has been lost.

I've heard the news early this evening (European time) through social media. Devistating to see such a monument burning (down). Still hoping for the best.

Inside the cathedral :

The main altar looks intact

The stone roof is damaged

The big organ is lost apparently.
No words on the main glass ceilings yet .

The photo of the altar, safe among the rest, is so hauntingly beautiful. As a religious person it makes me just think God certainly had His hand here. It could have been so, so much worse. Lives could have been lost. But it is far less tragic than we all anticipated...

Waking to this news brought tears to my eyes: the beautiful Cathedral is part of my culture, my civilisation, as a citizen of the world.

I'm thankful for the bravery and skill of the firefighters, and that the damage seems not to have been as calamitous as it might have been.

People of Paris, and France, know that the thoughts of many around the whole world are with you.

Hug thanks to everyone sending prayers and words of support

It's still too early to know how much is damaged and what still remains.

Most of the treasury was saved by the firemen and transferred to the Hotel de Ville. It will now be stored at the Louvre

It was so scary and heartbreaking to watch Notre-Dame de Paris in fire. All its history and suddenly caught in the big flames...
At least its good that most of the treasury was saved by the firemen. Its possible to rebuild but you can not replace invaluable pieces - when they are gone, they are gone for good.

That is very good news, I was worried about the windows and especially the organ. The walls are built for eternity, and weren't structurally damaged by the fire.

The world will provide plenty of funds and workmen to restore it - not all is lost.

I wonder if this disaster will bring the country back together in a positive way (although I have to admit that not having to pay for the toll roads because of yellow vest protesters was nice).
