Stay on topic

No dishing on Archie

No discussion on race or racism or politics

No discussion about Kate and William

News on Harry only in his thread, ditto with news of both of them.

I assume this is where Meghan dishing happens.

From Omid on twitter:

Quote
Duchess Meghan has revealed she has partnered with
@marksandspencer
,
@jlandpartners
,
@Jigsaw
 and friend
@mishanonoo
 to launch a capsule collection of workwear to benefit
@SmartWorksHQ
, the nationwide charity that helps unemployed and vulnerable women back into the workplace.

Great initiative. Sounds similar to the Meghan Markle collection for Reitmans she did before she was married.

If this is for real, I'd take any bet that there's a bigger benefit for Misha Nonoo in that capsule collection than for SmartWorks.

Plus, after Imelda has just been called out that the "eco-conscious" blanket the second coming was wrapped in at the Polo match is produced in India by women earning 37 pence per hour, they should double take where and under what conditions they have this capsule collection produced.

Next blunder ahead.

For every piece purchased, a piece will be donated.

I probably won't be able to wear any of the clothes  Cry but if they have accessories then I'm in.

This has potential.  It’s nothing original but that’s fine (save for the Stans acting like she’s reinventing the wheel).  I’ll be cautiously optimistic.

It would be nice to see her encouraging people to just donate clothes or money to SmartWorks and similar organizations.  No need to immediately jump on the commercial enterprise bandwagon.  I’d love to see the profits vs charity impact.

Stans don’t understand that similar organizations exist in their own countries and will buy the line because of Meghan...when they could be helping people in their own communities instead/in addition.  But that’s not total on Meghan.

A much simpler solution, but then Meghan wouldn't have the connection to the companies. As Kaiserin noted, best take look at who makes the clothing for the companies.

I'm always skeptical of collaborations like this because of course the company makes more than loss.  M&S is fast fashion,  they make garments pennies on the dollar. If they donate a suit for every suit they sell, but sell more than usual because of the promotion, they're making a lot more money than losing.  The amount in donation is akin to the stock sold on sale (reduced revenue but still more than the cost of production).

Its a great charity,  but wish she'd find ways of doing fundraising that didn't involve her transaction friendships, and huge self-congratulating promotional tours.

A first hint at that 'commercial freedom' we were promised come the Great Schism. This isn't the worst idea, but strongly aligning with named brands is a bit iffy in my book. Let Smartworks be the lead org in this. And ask you friend to sit this project out. Your friends' businesses should not benefit from your activities as a royal patron.

Bingo.

110% agree, if you really want to make a change then ask your friends to sit out or ask them for behind the scenes advice but keep their name off it so they can't be accused of trading off the association.
