Although Ferdinand I became King of Romania in 1914 on the demise of his uncle Carol I, the outbreak of the First World War delayed his coronation. Ferdinand was crowned in Transylvania in 1922.

And he was crowned as King of the unified Romania: the old kingdom, what is now the republic of Moldova, the north of Bucovina which is now part of Ukraine and Transylvania.

King Carol I was obliged to quell a peasant uprising in 1907 which claimed as many as 10,000 lives.

In the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 Queen Elisabeth devoted herself to the care of the wounded. She founded the Order of Elizabeth to reward distinguished service in such work.

Prince Carol (King Carol II) in 1893
http://www.alamy.com/carol-ii-image68835745.html

I think they have miss identified the Prince. Carol II was born around that time, 1893, IRC. The picture is of Carol I, and I don’t know when the title was changed from “prince of Romania” (principe) - the ruler of Romania - to “king of Romania”.

A picture I haven’t seen before. I have to look up the other people, they are, probably, political figures.

I want to take the time to thank you, Cyril, for your research work, you are a treasure of the board!

LE I have to take back my words. Carol II is in the middle of the picture, I have taken the person to the right to be Carol I.
They have only miss dated the picture.
