I completely get what you're saying about Sofia. But...and not wanting to give her a pass or whatever...I assume that the common language at the Nobels would be English?  Maybe her English isn't up to the standard needed to discuss politics or whatever with Nobel prize winners.

She lived in South Africa and New York for periods. I just imagine she knows zilch about intelligent matters like politics and science.

She doesn't need to know anything about politics and science, Snakey could speak with the Laureates about their families, hobbies or pets (if she had done her research and knows the facts of these).

Snakey seems incapable of holding a prolonged conversation with men horizontally and while that is great for CP personally, it is a disaster for Sweden.

She wouldn't even be a good mistress. Madame Pompadeur f. e. was a highly educated woman.

So true, all the legendary royal mistresses were intelligent and formidable women.

Even the dour and forgettable of royal wives, while some of them may have been uneducated most of them were good, loving and pious women who were credits to their spouses and monarchies.

Snakey is a fail in all categories.

Really? And where did the inspiration for all the Evil Queens in fairy tales such as Snow-White, the dancing princesses, the Snow Queen etc come from?

Sara Danius made a huge impact in Sweden the last couple of years especially, and in particular for women. During the Nobel scandal in 2018 her wearing a pussy bow as a political statement became a huge thing in Sweden with lots of women wearing them almost as a movement. Victoria is absolutely making a statement wearing the red dress. It’s not a good look for her no, but I kind of admire that she doesn’t mind making a statement even if she doesn’t look traditionally pretty doing it. She goes big and she’s not afraid to do so. Hats off to her (and hopefully more beautifully executed dresses next year).

As for her trying to outshine Silvia: she’s the future regent. I am sure Silvia doesn’t mind one bit her daughter is coming into her own.

Sofia has shown little interest in preparing and improving herself for the job and position she got along with marrying CP. This in itself proves how unsuited she is for being a royal. She - they - think it’s enough that she looks the part. They think they can remove evidence of her past online and give her semi-glitzy positions and then it will do. They’re wrong. Faced with those who have worked hard and are educated on whatever topic she will always fall short because she is ignorant, uneducated and - worst of all - doesn’t really care. She cares only about herself and it shows.

No wonder Madeleine would rather be at home with Chris and their children now.

Absolutely Maria.  To all of it, but I think the best evidence is the fact that Madeleine has put an ocean between herself and this mess of a family. I wonder if Vic is envious?

So true, Maria. This is the biggest problem I have with Sofia, she thinks she's pretty special and so doesn't try to improve herself because in her mind what is there to improve? And I'm sure stupid CP and his nasty father tell her she's perfect. They're all so shallow; if it looks pretty on the surface then no need to look any deeper. So she hasn't and won't try to become a more informed citizen of this planet.

I love that Chris no longer has time for these people, if Madde is having a hard time being around them imagine how bad it would be for someone who isn't used to the shallowness of people like Snakey and CP. What a waste of precious time and honestly what in the world could they discuss? Poor Madde being torn between two places, but I'm glad she's found her happiness. And poor Nobel Laureates, I'm sure Chris and Madde are vastly better dinner partners than Sssssnakey ever could be.

Even though I do really like Victoria, I don't for a second believe she wore this pussy bow because she is capable of making bold decisions to show solidarity with women. If Victoria was the kind to be bold in her actions, she would have supported her sister more visibly instead of allowing her to be smeared left, right and center. All royals (and even political figures for that matter) do try to exploit famous movements to gain favorable press and attention. Unfortunately that's what she's doing in my opinion. I am not saying she doesn't care about women. Just that she can only make bold moves on mainstream issues and that too where the majority of the population has given its verdict.

Mainstream issues? Women have been harassed, abused, assaulted for centuries just because they are women. It was about time people finally talk a lot about that. And every day, we learn about women still suffering because of the brutality of some men who still think they're superior and who treat women as if they are less than zero.

And just a little reminder, about Victoria and the Nobel scandal :

Thank you Lady Mellie, you said exactly what I wanted to! Beer
Victoria is a bold activist on many fronts, not only concerning this issue but also environmental and physical wellness. She was actually a victim of this horrible person, it's inconceivable to me to downplay the importance of her voice in this respect. Nono

Yes, it is a mainstream issue and it's a good thing that it finally is. There is nothing wrong in that. It's about time that women's rights are acknowledged as a universal issue and there is hardly any dissent on it except from certain extremist quarters.  Please don't twist my words and inform me self righteously about the struggles of women as If I don't know about them or live through them. This forum increasingly becomes hateful as soon as a person gives a diverging opinion. It's as if young members are expected to not have a different opinion unless they are ready to be vilified for it. Don't insinuate that I don't acknowledge the struggles of women or care about them. I simply said that it's easier for royals to support issues that have a huge support from the public than it is to support less popular and equally important issues.

The fight for equality between women and men obviously diverge quite a bit in the various countries, but completely ignoring that Victoria herself was part of this specific situation and that it’s personal for her makes your argument rather irrelevant here Saltypleb. Also it’s a more general discussion than the very on point one we’re having here: the reason Victoria is wearing a rather ugly in your face dress with a very targeted message.

Interesting photo angle, so that Madeleine's tiara appears to be on Sofia's head  Wink

Didn't realize before till I saw this frontal image of Victoria, how wide Victoria's shoulders actually were in that red dress   Blink

And Snakey's dress seems to have a bright pink trail at the back in addition to a (double) tiara. A funny effect.

Oh my, Vikkan looks like a kind of bodybuilder...

A "funny" thing which I did not notice during the Ceremony this year: CG sat at the wrong chair on the stage. Svenskdam points out this thing because CG went to sit in Silvia's chair, which had the cushion Silvia always uses because of her back.
Silvia notices this, stares at him (probably wondering why he sat on her chair), turns to CG and says a few words but the King's Song starts. However CG sat on the wrong chair, he takes the cushion and puts it to Silvia's chair.
