In 1385 King Richard II made Robert de Vere, who was the Earl of Oxford, the Marquis of Dublin. In 1386 Richard made him Duke of Ireland.

During the reign of King Edward I, Parliament began to meet more regularly.     
Edward invaded and conquered Scotland in 1296. The Stone of Scone was removed and taken to Westminster Abbey.

Henry the Young King was the heir to King Henry II. His access to land revenue was strictly limited. Although he had been given many castles, he was never properly vested with the lands and revenues of his dominions. He was thus heavily in debt, the result of maintaining a lavish courtly lifestyle without the means to pay for it.
