In 1376 King Edward III signed letters patent on the order of succession, citing in second position John of Gaunt, but ignoring Philippa, the daughter of Lionel, Duke of Clarence.

In 1361 the marriage of Edward the Black Prince to Joan of Kent was set to afford Prince Edward the first Plantagenet king/prince to be married to a divorced mother since Henry II had wed Eleanor of Aquitaine.

On January 6, 1667 Richard of Bordeaux was born. His baptism was attended by what the Canterbury chronicler William Thorne described as the three magi. The three kings at court were King Pedro of Castile, King James IV of Majorca, and King Richard of Armenia.
