Mary has sent a personal message to Australia's PM in connection with the wildfires: http://kongehuset.dk/nyhe...straliens-premierminister

Quote
Your Excellency Prime Minister,

In this time of great hardship caused by the ruthless bush fires, my husband and I would like to convey our warmest wishes to the Australian people as we enter a new year.

Our heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost loved ones and our deepest sympathy to the many families who have lost their homes - their livelihoods.  When the immediate crisis subsides and people can begin to return from where they have fled, our thoughts and concerns will remain with the affected local communities, as it will undoubtedly take great efforts and time for them to rebuild what has been lost.

The courage and unyielding efforts of the volunteer firefighters have our deepest respect and admiration.

Following from afar, it makes me proud of my Australian heritage to witness the strong sense of community and the Australian spirit of ’never giving up’ in the face of such devastation and adversity.

Warmest regards,

Mary

That's a nice gesture. Yes
(And yes I'm aware that it's a PR stunt too).

I certainly hope that those fires will be under control soon enough and that the animals/people will fully recover.

More personal if she just signed it by her name and no title.

Let’s just be glad she didn’t write “my husband, The Crown Prince Frederick, and I...”

Right.
Warmest wishes don't pay the bills.

And, Really?!
... to support the PM after his own personal firestorm for taking a family Hawaiian holiday during this crisis ...

Oh, but she always does! She never puts her money where her mouth is - hot air, nothing else....oh, well, maybe we will see another OZ visit, when the fires have calmed down, and she can parade her fake-self accross the harbour of Sidney.

Well, people need more than a message public figures have sent money not messages people lost everything in this.

I think it was a nice, appropriate note that was well vetted before sent out.

Immediate crisis indeed! It is an ongoing crisis, and no amount of time or effort can rebuild the loss that Australia has experienced.
No mention of the devastating loss of wildlife either, or that the air is so bad, a lot of people have not been able to go outside since before Christmas.

Mosh should have saved her paper. If she had pledged the money she spends on a pair of her Rossi's or a Prada bag I would have had some (grudging) respect.

It amuses me that Meghan is making Mary look better and better. Mary had the sense to let someone literate draft this for her.

Mind you, basic protocol dictates that she should have named the Crown Prince. She is relegating him - she seriously knows he’s useless and she will effectively be queen.

I think it was nice of Mary to send the message to Australian people. I think Mary could have also mentioned the destruction of nature and threatened animal species.
This has been [and sadly still is!] extreme situation and shouldn't go unnoticed. I sincerely hope that Mary also allocated donation to the Australian Red Cross to support them in aiding disaster victims. If she did so, then good for not parading it.
