Today, Birgitte Qvist-Sørensen, General Secretary Noedhjaelp/DanChurchAid, opened the 5th Wefood store in Tingbjerg together with Princess Marie, the Minister of Food Mogens Jensen, and Annette Juhlers Kjær from Salling Group.

Every time we open a new store, together we can reduce food waste and fight hunger in the world.

September 29
Marie receives the "Stræberen" Honorary Award for her work against food waste
The "Stræberen" ("The Struggle") honorary award is awarded to a person who has excelled in the fight against food waste and was founded by the organization De Samvirkende Købmænd. The organisation thought that today was the perfect occasion to award Marie as today is Denmark’s National Food Waste day. Choosing Marie to be the recipient of the award this year, the CEO of DSK, John Wagner, said:

- "The princess has made a huge public information effort in the service of the good cause".

He also noted that Princess Marie was the patron of the government food summit “World Food Summit – Better Food for More People”, that she welcomed children in her own home to taught them about food waste and that last year, she co-authored a cookbook against food waste with Selina Juul. He further went on saying:

- "It was a very great honor to receive "The Struggle" last year, but it is actually an even greater honor to pass on "The Struggle" to HRH Princess Marie, who is just as passionate about reducing food waste as I am".

The award "Streberen" is a sculpture made by the late sculptor, Torben Bøgh Hansen and weighs 26 kg. The recipient keeps it for a year and then joins the CEO of DSK and all the previous winners in deciding who should be the next recipient. This evening, previous recipients attending the ceremony included Selina Juul – the founder of the Stop Wasting Food Movement who won it in 2018 – and Klaus Jørgensen who won it in 2019.

That last picture is great - shows what social distancing can do for making photos more interesting, and photographers more creative.  So much better than everyone crowded around a little pillar!  We can really see everyone now.

September 30
Marie, as patron, attended DanChurchAid's monthly morning meeting for the organization's 730 employees around the world.
Princess Marie attended Wednesday's DanChurchAid's monthly morning meeting for the organization's 730 employees around the world. From Bamako in West Africa to Addis Ababa in the Horn of Africa, and from Erbil in Iraq in the Middle East to Nepal and Cambodia in Southeast Asia.

Employees from all over the world participated in DanChurchAid's online morning meeting on Wednesday, where Princess Marie gave a speech. Regarding the importance of the Princess 'work as a patron and participation in the morning meeting, says Secretary General Birgitte Qvist-Sørensen:

- “We are incredibly happy and proud of the Princess' work as a patron of DanChurchAid. The princess is sincerely and professionally committed to the world and to our work. I can clearly feel that when she visits our programs in Africa and Asia. And we all feel it when she sets aside time to attend our monthly morning meeting. It should not be underestimated that this is a great recognition of the employees' work."

The princess attended the meeting at the headquarters in Vesterbro in Copenhagen, where due to the corona there were only 10 employees present, the rest followed the meeting from their home computers. The vast majority of the employees at anChurchAid's 19 offices in the world are locally employed, and the Princess' speech was therefore given in English.

Princess Marie shared experiences and impressions from her recent work trip for DanChurchAid to Uganda this spring, a few days before the world shut down due to the corona. After the Princess' speech, the morning meeting continued with news from the work in the field, among others from employees in Ethiopia and Mali. Here, among other things, the many challenges with corona in refugee camps were discussed. Representatives of DanChurchAid's youth department NOW told about their emergency bingo events in Denmark, which at the same time inform and create income. Finally, DanChurchAid's Secretary General Birgitte Qvist-Sørensen, as usual, opened the morning meeting with a status speech to the many employees.

why aren't people really social distancing and/or wearing masks -- only sometimes?  yes, they all should wear nets or caps around food.

Wefood is the first surplus food supermarket in Denmark that sells goods regular supermarkets can no longer sell.

A few years ago, Wefood opened their first shop on Amager and not that long after, another one at Nørrebro. Wefood sells goods that the supermarkets can't sell because of incorrect labels, overdue of 'best before' dates or damaged packaging. To stop food waste and donate the money to projects providing emergency aid and social protection schemes as well as projects promoting agro-ecological production.

All products are certified edible and safe to consume according to the Danish food legislation. Their product varies from day to day depending on what donation they are given. They are often sold with a discount of 30-50%.

Marie's smile isn't quite reaching her eyes. She's been through the mill with Jokke's illness. I hope she is taking time to look after herself.

Very astute and I agree. She's a pro but her heart is elsewhere right now.

With the possible exception of Claude Chirac and the definite exception of Marie, the rest of the women are accomplished in their own right and are gracing the panel by virtue of their talent and not as a result of the men in their lives.
