Anyone else watching ``Atlantic Crossing,'' which appears here in the US on PBS on Sunday nights? It's allegedly the story of the Nazi invasion of Norway, the escape of the royal family, the efforts of the royal family to rally allied support for Norway and, perhaps, the romance between FDR and Crown Princess Martha.
I know that President Roosevelt had an eye for the ladies and apparently there are more than 280 documented meetings between himself and the crown princess, but I have the feeling that nothing improper occurred. I did hear that one of the reasons King Harald speaks English with an American accent is due to all the time he spent at the White House as a child during the war.
As a side note, my youngest sister is named Martha, in honor of the crown princess, and, as I named one of my daughters for her aunt, I guess she's also named for the crown princess (NOT the president-day Princess Martha Louise, who is a totally different kettle of lutefisk, if you ask me).
