I’m not sure but I do have a book about an exhibition of her gowns some years ago. It’s incredible!

Is there a biography about her? I read a bit about her in other books (Queen Victoria's Granddaughters, and I found a catalogue about her fashions that I'd love to buy) but she must have been an interesting person. Shy and strong-willed, a tomboy with a famous wasp waist. Can't have been easy to grow up under the smothering wings of Mother Dear ;-) with her everlasting youthful beauty.

Carreen, "Born to Rule" is the closest to a biography of her that I've read (excellent book BTW even though there are inconsistencies it's an easy read). She and her sisters really suffered from being in their mother's shadow and at her beck and call. Sadly, they had no chance to fully develop into women of their own so I feel there isn't really much to write about them.

Thank you! I'm off to look for the book :-) Even if there is not much to write about them - the time, context and circle of acquaintances ;-) are certainly interesting! Their dynamic with the rest of the family, all this whispered gossip.

PS: Turns out I have the book on my Kindle already - bought it some time ago and didn't read it!

The Coronation of King Haakon VII and Queen Maude occurred at Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim on June 22, 1906.
Although Nidaros Cathedral was under restoration at the time, the entire nave was opened for use to accomodate over 2,300 people.

King Haakon and Queen Maud received the Kongsseteren as a gift from the Norwegian people after their donation in 1906. A fundraising campaign funded it.

Queen Maud learned to speak Norwegian. She often wore folk outfits in order to fit in with the Norwegians.

Queen Victoria and her daughter Victoria worked to find Maud an appropriate husband. One German option was Princess Alice's son, Ernest Louis, the future Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine.

How did Prince Carl choose Haakon for his regnal name? The last King of Norway named Haakon, Haakon VI, ruled from 1343 to 1380.
