The fact that Princess Maud was the daughter of the ruling monarch of the United Kingdom was an influential factor in the Storting's decision to offer Prince Carl the Norwegian throne in 1905.

Did not know that. Super interesting. Thank you for all your easy to read, bite sized tidbits, Cyrilsebastian.

In 1914 Queen Maud took the initiative to establish a fund in her name to assist people in extremely difficult circumstances following the First World War.

King Haakon VII became King of Norway before his father Frederik and older brother Christian became kings of Denmark.

Is there a biography about her? I read a bit about her in other books (Queen Victoria's Granddaughters, and I found a catalogue about her fashions that I'd love to buy) but she must have been an interesting person. Shy and strong-willed, a tomboy with a famous wasp waist. Can't have been easy to grow up under the smothering wings of Mother Dear ;-) with her everlasting youthful beauty.
