Another royal going to United World College of the Atlantic in Llantwit Major in Wales.

Princess Alexia attended secondary school in Wales

After the summer holidays, Princess Alexia continues her high school years at the United World College of the Atlantic in Llantwit Major in Wales. Her father, King Willem-Alexander, attended the same school.

The international boarding school has about 350 students from dozens of countries. Alexia's contemporary, Crown Princess Leonor of Spain, also attends the school. Elisabeth, the Crown Princess of Belgium, graduated last year.

The Government Information Service reports that Alexia is going there for her International Baccalaureate. That is a diploma that you receive at the end of the seventh year at a European School. That diploma is recognized throughout Europe. Now the 15-year-old princess is still in the fourth year of the Christelijk Gymnasium Sorghvliet in The Hague.

Creativity
"It has always been an open secret that Willem-Alexander was sent to that school because he was not feeling well," says royal house reporter Kysia Hekster. He attended boarding school from 1983 to 1985. "Why Alexia goes to this school is not known."

The school concept consists of teaching social and social responsibility. Diversity is an important part. The school also pays a lot of attention to creativity during extracurricular hours. "That works out nicely for Alexia, because she plays the guitar", says Hekster.

Princess Alexia  to secondary school in Wales after the summer

Princess Alexia of the Netherlands will continue her high school days at the United World College of the Atlantic (UWC Atlantic College) in Llantwit Major in Wales after the summer, the Government Information Service announced on Tuesday.

The 15-year-old princess will go there for her International Baccalaureate. This diploma is equivalent to a VWO diploma and is recognized throughout Europe.

The second daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima is now in the fourth grade of the Christelijk Gymnasium Sorghvliet in The Hague.

The United World College of the Atlantic is the oldest of the United World Colleges, a group of schools that claim to "educate for tolerance and social responsibility". Many students at the school do extracurricular activities and are involved in the social field, for example by doing voluntary work.

Students at the school can choose from six teaching packages, including one that focuses on language and one that focuses on science.

Willem-Alexander attended the same school
Alexia's father Willem-Alexander also trained here, as did Crown Princess Elisabeth of Belgium. Crown Princess Leonor of Spain (15) is currently also attending the school in Wales and thus becomes Alexia's schoolmate.

Princess Alexia spent her primary school days at the public Bloemcampschool in Wassenaar, just like her sisters Amalia and Ariane. All three also attended the same gymnasium.

The RVD emphasizes that the media code is also in force in Wales. So it is not allowed to take pictures of the princess just like that. "The period of schooling for the princesses is private. At the express request of the parents, the media is called upon to continue to respect the privacy of their daughters."

Not sure if someone on here predicted that Alexia would go to boarding school.

If I was a social climber and had a teenage son, I might be putting his name down and see if I could bag him a place in a Royal family.

You'll also want to make sure your kid goes to Brown or Georgetown.  If I had known then what I know now!  Definitely would have tried for Brown!

Yep, an ambitious young man could go for Leo and be a future Prince Consort, or Alexia if he doesn't mind playing the spare for a few years! Seriously though, I think this is a great experience for them both. Will get them out of their comfort zones a bit. I wonder if they've ever interacted much with each other before. I know Alexia and Christian are friends.

Maybe Alexia and Leonor will share a room.

Anything about Amalia? She's the heiress after all. Won't she go there too? (Or to some other international boarding school)

As far as known in NL she is staying here in NL for now, with regard to education. In the past there were rumours she was learning Chinese, but this was denied by her dad.

Well to be fair, they need to up the spares' educations and networks. They will most certainly not be required in running the kingdom and need to find alternatives, so that they don't end like several other fairly desperate and pathetic siblings. The NL have had a good system with WA's brothers and perhaps they continue to do so with the Ateam.

This information is wrong.  Leonor is currently in Spain and will start the new school year in Wales after the summer break.

As to Alexia and Leonor sharing a room, I doubt it.  They will lead different lives and Leonor's path is already in place as heir to the throne.  Besides, my impression is both girls are very different in character and they will mix with people similar in personalities. Just because they are royals doesn't mean they are going to become best friends.  Few royals, if any, are close friends.  They know each other, they move in the same circles, but I wouldn't say close friends.

Is English the lingua franca among the Royal families in Europe? I know at this school they'll presumably teach in English, being in Wales and all, but when Alexia interacts with the other young royals, does anyone know if it's English or French or what?

I would say the royals in Norway, Sweden and Denmark seem fairly close

English, if there isn't a language that is closer to both.
So I assume that eg. Alexia speaks spanish due to her mother being argentine, so she could speak spanish with Leonor, when they meet in the corridors. The scandis can understand eachother speaking their own languages respectively, Dutch and Flemish is almost the same, so I presume, that at a meeting between NL and BRF, they might speak Dutch/flemish.
French as a lingua du Court isn't used any more.

Alexia is expected to have Dutch and Spanish as her mother tongues, via her parents and surroundings. In my time German and French were the most common foreign languages, besides English on Dutch schools (mainly secondary education). Therefore I guess Alexia also has a basic knowledge of French at least.
