A Hawaiian shirt often has bold designs of flowers, leaves, birds, beaches, etc.

The threads you start, Cyril, just make me sigh with relief--after jacking myself up about whatever--dishes in the sink, cat, dog, lazy teenagers, smoke, fires, spoiled royalty, covid, online learning. I love the beautiful threads you start. I'll go look for some cool Hawaiian shirts now.

I agree, CyrilSebastian, you are a wonder!
Vintage Hawaiian shirts are very collectible and can be quite expensive! They are very beautiful, too: http://thealohashirt.net/

What a delightful thread!  I love the main shirt in the link, the one with the red background.   We need more Hawaiian shirts!

Ooh, I love that one, it reminds me of the orchids I saw at the Foster Botanical Gardens in Honolulu.

Funny thing, the guys in my dept. have a tradition of wearing Hawaian shirts every (as I call it "sloppy Friday") casual Friday. HA! Have to ask them were this tradition came from.

Be careful, Peeds.  I hear that the far right has appropriated Aloha shirts as one of their insignias.  I hope that rumour is wrong because Aloha shirts have other wonderful connections, but itís possible.

Whaa, that is a scary thought - thanks for the info, Dio  Star

We are the only dept. in our association who has the tradition and I texted a colleague a while ago to see if he knows. So, as far as he remembers it was brought on by an ex-Hawaian pilot who worked in our office and to make him comfortable they started to wear the shirt on sloppy Friday's. Knowing most of my coworkers for over 10 years (we are a bunch of multi nationals, multi racial, multi lingual, aviators, engineers, ex-aviators, aeronautical people, and others from all walks of life) I doubt that any of them would side with those right wing imbeciles. Let's hope none of them is hiding amongst us Nerves Tell you what though, since I'm a sh&*t-stirer, I'll mention that at our next virtual staff meeting. Since I'm hosting those and see all the people on my screen, I'm now curious what their reaction will be.  Thinking

LOL...the secret is to know when it's worth to stir and when not  Tongue  I like people who think independently, and especially support those who dare to speak up but then are overrun or intimidated by a complacent majority...cannot stand that.

But I definitely will let you all know  Thumb up
