March 8Albert, accompanied by Charlene, attended the episcopal ordination of Monseigneur Dominique-Marie DAVID, new Archbishop of Monaco.This ceremony was celebrated by Archbishop Bernard BARSI, Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese, surrounded by Archbishop Jean-Paul JAMES, Archbishop of Bordeaux and Bazas and Archbishop Yves LE SAUX, Bishop of Le Mans.
About twenty bishops, more than 60 priests, many faithful as well as representatives of the high Monegasque authorities were present to attend this consecration, rhythmized by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra and the organists of the Cathedral including sacred songs have been performed by the Mastery of the Cathedral and the Little Singers of Monaco.
This ordination mass was marked by important gestures such as reading the papal bubble officializing the appointment of Archbishop David, imposing hands by all the bishops present, prayer of ordination, as well as anointing, handing over Evangeliary and badges of the bishop.
In the preamble to this mass, Their Highnesses welcomed the new Archbishop to the gates of the Cathedral, as tradition wants.
Archbishop Dominique-Marie David, new Archbishop of Monaco and Grand Chaplain of the Palace of H.S. the Sovereign Prince succeeds Monseigneur Barsi, now Grand Chaplain Emeritus of the Palace of H.S. the Sovereign Prince whose episcopal ministry lasted 20 years.
