So, I guess she needs her own thread October 1Delphine Boël is now officially a Belgian princessAs of today, Delphine Boël, the illegitimate daughter of King Albert II, is officially a princess of Belgium, the Brussels Court of Appeal decided. The judgment was not expected until 29 October, but has already been handed down today. Delphine is now changing her name to that of her father, namely ‘of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha’. Her children, Joséphine and Oscar, also become princess and prince of Belgium, and should be addressed the same way.

October 20Princess Delphine of Belgium unveiled a sculpture by her own hand in Sint-Niklaas (East Flanders) on Saturday. The event was the princess’s first public outing since a Belgian court ruled in her favour and agreed that as the natural daughter of King Albert she had a right to a share in any inheritance and to bear the royal title. I can feel love” the London-based artist told onlookers. “This is going in the right direction, but I’m hoping for more.” https://www.vrt.be/vrtnws...-outing-unveils-new-work/Video: https://twitter.com/i/status/1317452255021436928

October 9Joint communication of the King and Princess Delphine"We met each other for the first time at the Castle of Laken. It was a warm encounter. This long and rich discussion gave us the opportunity to learn to know each other. We talked about our respective lives and areas of shared interest. This bond will further develop within the family setting.

Christmas came early, a million stars for you my dear Peeds! This thread made me very happy. She looks so engaged at the hospital visit and everyone seems to be very at ease. I'm sure it's not everyone's cup of tea but I really like the way she's dressed as well. Yay!

I was surprised to see her undertaking a semi-official sort of visit. She is getting attention for the hospital and the vaccination program and that is a good thing. I like the way she is dressed, too. I think she should keep to her own style. She would be probably be criticised and accused of putting on airs if she suddenly started dressing in the style of her step-siblings and their families.

He is!
It is a clever thing of her to do visits like this because they will obviously bring attention to whatever cause she’ll be promoting.

I am unaccountably happy to see this. How smart to use her to draw attention to worthy causes that she also personally cares about. A very rare win/win.

Why do RDers think she was taken into the fold in such a traditional royal way (Princess, typical royal events, like a working royal)? Anyone have an idea on the psychology at play here on Philippe's and Mathilde's part, or on the former king and queen?
I'm very happy for it and for her. She is clearly rising to the occasion appropriately. RD is filled with such good analyzers, let's hear it.

Maybe after so long of the 'old regime' trying to pretend she didn't exist Philippe and Mathilde, or their staff at the least, felt a change of tact was needed. It seems to me as if Delphine is having a similar role to Princess Marie-Esméralda and her siblings - royal title, the odd charitable duties tied to a specific interest or two but otherwise largely out of the 'core RF'.

I really like seeing her doing engagements. I'm glad the family has embraced her and even given her a role. I like her style.
In Delphine I see a faint resemblance to Laurent and to her grandmother, Queen Astrid.

Maybe she will be used like the Kent and Gloucester cousins in the UK. It is smart to keep her close in that sense. It is good for everyone after so much sour PR for a long time to treat her with dignity otherwise their titles and privilege mean nothing. I think Philippe is savvy enough to get it and I think his marriage gives him a lot of love and strength to do things like this that many people in his position couldn't do easily - share the royal wealth. Philippe must have known of his sister for years if not his whole life and this may be a good way to finally heal his own wounds. Whatever the reason he comes out smelling like a rose in a tiny pot lol.
