I think it's from her last major photo session before her divorce.  There were some gorgeous shots.  I liked her hair like this much better than the straight-as-straw look after the divorce.

1979 - Regamus

1981 - Emanuel

1981 - Bill Pashley

1986 - Catherine Walker

1986 - Murray Arbeid

1987 - Catherine Walker

1987 - Catherine Walker

1990 - Catherine Walker

1990 - Gina Fratini for Hartnell

1997 - Atelier Versace

1997 - Catherine Walker

Diana: Her Fashion Story opens at Kensington Palace on Friday, February 24.
The story is here:

While I am not a fan of some of the above fashions, I would totally wear the bottom pale blue shift by Catherine Walker.

Diana was the real deal on what a princess is and does - imo.

That simple powder blue shift dress of Catherine Walker's is stunning, talk about timeless it could easily be worn today. I am feeling very nostalgic lately about Diana, perhaps it is because my own mother just passed away and she was such a fan of hers. I am hoping that someone will publish a definitive Diana fashion book one day starting with some of the outfits she wore when she was still Lady Diana.

You know, a lot of these items (especially from the beginning) would be considered frumpy and dated (and they are, lets get real) but I can CLEARLY assign a mental image of when she wore each piece. We are interested in the clothes not necessarily for the construction and design value but for the association with the woman who wore them. Do you really think people will want to see a retrospective view of Kate's blue Issa shift she wore for showing off the ring previously owned by this woman?

Speaking of Issa - I never noticed how much that wrapover effect was used previously by Hartnoll (?) and employed by Issa. Kate was SWF Diana long before.

And more speaking of Diana - for various reasons I was recently watching some documentary on the making of Live Aid (don't judge! huge Ultravox fan here Smiley) and how all the artists lined up and she and Charles met them all before taking their seats for a few hours. Sure Chuck looked stiff but she was interested and engaged - such a difference from today! No gurning, no posing or flashing, just doing her job but making even those (at the time) superstars pale in comparison to her presence.

I really like the two light coloured/white draped dresses, IMO they could still be worn in present days.

How nice of the people who bought all of those gowns at the auction to lend them to the exhibition.

I am trying to locate the dress/color pictures of the dress. Still haven't found, but stumbled upon similar dresses:
