I could look at Diana pics all day!

Yes, I'm the same--can't explain it in any rational way. I see her and I just smile. Pretty remarkable that someone who's been gone so long can still have that effect. I'm aware of her flaws (some of which were terrible and extremely deep), but her charisma was absolutely unmatched. She was one-of-a-kind.

The same here. I have a book called "Diana" by Alison Gauntlett filled with pictures only and I can look at them all day long Smiley. There was something very special about her that none of the new princesses have it.

[Quote by Princess Ta: Same here, SD and editor.  A Diana  for each of you.  Whatever "IT" is she had it.  I think of her two sons and IMHO Harry got a lot of "IT".  Of course, Charles did complain about his "rusty" Spencer hair when he was born--seems to me he inherited a lot from Diana.quote]

Diana  Star 's to all of you! And I totally agree: I only have to look at a single Di pic or vid and it just makes me happy (ofcourse I'm spoilt rotten with this thread lol! Grin)  It takes a special kind of person to have that effect on people the world over, regardless of gender, background, etc... which indeed she was.

I feel like I can always tell, looking at photos, whether a woman is engaged in her surroundings or thinking about how she must look while she is out in her surroundings.  This is the biggest difference when I compare Diana and Kate--Diana looks interested, mischevious, happy, sad, etc.  Kate, in the vast majority of photos I see, seems to be acting and affecting in some way.  I can just hear her inner monologue reminding her to smile, suck in her gut, remember that she is now a royal, etc. etc.  It makes her seem very fake, vain, and unrelatable, somehow.

If Kate knows what's good for her she'll take a page from her mother in law's book and start to experience her life and connect with others, instead of worrying about her appearance.

You've hit the nail on the head for me. Kate gives off the impression of wanting to be at her events, but the need to be seen as a 'proper' royal and doing everything according to protocall seems to take over. Which isn't a bad thing, it's just that if she displayed as much enthusiasm for the event aswell, she'd achieve the perfect balance.

Good post.  Thumb up I agree. IMO, Kate is acting and she has been for a very long time.

IMO, Kate only wants to be at events because she loves the attention and not because she has a skerrick of interest in the charities of which are supposed to hold her interest. Case in point: she looks engaged when she's with celebrities, hence why they are probably impressed with her.  Snare

I see, you mean the headband? I was her thing for a while, I never liked it  Thumb down

Thank you SherbertDip  Tongue if that doesnīt deserve a toast then I donīt know what does  Champagne

I think Kate goes overboard with her "charity performances". I donīt see a genuine interest on her part. Everything she does is over the top and only part of the royal show. To me Diana always looked natural and spontaneous, even when she was new at this. We all know that before she became princess she enjoyed spending time with kids, old and sick people (during her school years).
I donīt remember picture of Kate (pre-duchess days) interacting with a child or an older person (Charles doesnīt count) so Iīm 100% sure she has no idea how to behave around them. Itīs a probably a good thing that in one of her "princess lessons" she learned how to quickly switch to android mode when itīs necessary  Wink

Star Excellent posts. I've gotten the feeling many times that Kate is very concerned about making a mistake when she's at different events.

Now to be fair Diana wasn't as comfortable with her initial royal events, but she often would giggle or give one of her "Shy Di" looks. Once she discovered her star quality there was a difference during her appearances.

I agree as well. This is how I feel about Mary as well. Mary's been on the royal scene for years now but at every appearance she still does what she thinks a royal should do.

I love this thread. I do miss Diana. I never thought she was outwardly beautiful, but she oozed with charm. So much charm that it oozes into every picture. I think that's one of the reasons why she is still so loved. I do think she was beautiful inside. For all her faults, she did know how to make a difference, in a good way, in the lives of the people she met.

Yapetka   Star   I don't know how you find these early shots ( ig the VERY first one of Diana in black and white).  It is like looking through a family album, looking at those early, oft black and white , very evocative shots.  Thankyou  Champagne Champagne Champagne Champagne Champagne Champagne Beer Beer Beer Beer Beer Hug Hug Hug Hug Hug

Just to clarify my last post I made a mistake: it should read: Kate gives off the impression of not wanting to be at her events (I wish what I wrote first was the case, sadly no imo.) It's shouldn't (and probably isn't intended to) be the case, but that is how it comes across to me at least (shopping trips almost immediately after don't help either! Snare). She seems to be there in body, but not mind and spirit! Sad
To me this is the chief difference between Di and her (not like there's any comparison! Secret) Di was at heart an ordinary person, who earned the love and respect of many by doing extraordinary things. Kate is an ordinary person, who seems to expect the love and respect of many, by trying to convince that she herself is extraordinary. And I know it's mainly the media who project this image, however I don't see her rushing to stop them by proving that she can be something other than a clotheshorse. Sure Wills and the palace clearly have her on a short lead, but she appears very content to stay on it if it means a life of doing the bare minimum duty-wise, shopping and holidays. No

Sorry, didn't mean to turn it into a Kate-thread Blush

Proceed with the Di pics!  Jumping
