The actual engagements are for good reasons (early childhood education is a major concern in most societies) but the media only focus on what they wear. That is why the men hardly get any coverage and Anne, who doesn't bother with 'fashion' also misses out. It doesn't matter how important the issue the media simply reports on what they wear and get 1000s of clicks on such stories so the media continues to only report on that (and many boards also focus only on the clothes and not the causes).
It isn't that the women do 'lightweight' causes e.g. Camilla with rape and domestic violence and Sophie with violence against women in places of conflict but most people don't know about that because all that is reported is the clothes and jewels they are wearing.
Personally I am of the opinion that royal ladies, like the men, should have a basic type of 'work outfit' - a skirt and standard jacket with a different blouse each day - take the focus of the clothes and the media might then have to focus on the actual cause.
Excellent. Let's see WA or Chuck, or Haakon, or Frodo do these causes, and send the women to the meetings they attend. Oh also, have the men sitting beside them like decorations. I like to admire what new Laouboutins shoes Haakon has finally got for himself

The men do have their own causes. It isn't the fault of the women or the men that the men's causes don't get coverage unless there is a woman along to have the media write about their fashion rather than the cause. It isn't the fault of the women, many of whom do have very serious causes, that the media focuses on the clothes.
The royals find causes that are of interest to them so pointless sending Catherine to a meeting of The Prince's Trust when she has no interest in it or sending Charles to an early childhood meeting when he isn't that passionate about it.
The men tend to have their wives along as, other than Victoria, the men are the royal while the woman are the married in ... and hence their role is to support their husband, not the other way round. That doesn't mean the man doesn't support their wives but precedence demands that the man, the future King, the born royal, takes precedence over their wives.
