Fred's Peter Pan Wealthy Playboy gambit was his achilles when it can to several quality girlfriends.
He had a steady low-key girlfriend in Bettina ... but he went trolling ... cheated on her with Mary in short order.
Mary was always going for the gold. The rest is history.

That second picture where she has a wide stride and is looking at the camera with a huge smile . . . Nothing has changed in all these years. Definitely still looker me.
I don’t have the sense of personal growth in her role or gravitas like Kaye has evolved over time.
I like the light blue coat, though. It’s a good outfit, but perhaps the pants are too wide legged for that coat.

I am no Mary fan, never have been, as I find her lacking in charisma big time, plus her pouting is very unattractive. Frederik is simply boring in my eyes. However, just being plain does not mean a woman isn't worthy of marrying someone, even Frederik, as she may have other important qualities. It is perhaps the lack of the other important qualities that makes it hard for me to warm to her.

She is 50. We live in a world in which we believe a woman at 50 looks like the twin of her 25 yo daughter. Some woman do, great, wonderful, either with great care or great genes. Some just don't. I think Mary looks exactly like about 95% of the wealthy, well-kept women who lunches. She is thin, which is rule number one (but doesn't help with keeping enough collagen) her hair is carefully coiffed in what she considers her signature look, her fashion is expensive and elegant, her make-up professional and yes a tad too much. I see Mary's at absolutely every EVERY higher social functioning...
Mary is very, very plain and ordinary compared to most wealthy women who are just the wives though. There are wealthy couples who met pre-wealth where the woman is as homely as Mary, but name me a wealthy man who chose a plain woman AFTER he developed his wealth! Fred is unique! From what has been alluded to over decades the DRF doesn’t have a lot of personal wealth... yes the castles etc and a big allowance but it would be all spent... Mary of course has expensive clothes.... well from the perspective of average income earners and “cheap” jewels that have been purchased over the years.... some nice earrings etc but nothing substantial other than what Fred got from his grandmother... I mean no decent diamonds or a nice tiara ... the wedding one was tacky at best and she acquired one cheaply at an auction that is still second rate .... so they have an illusion of money but not a lot really... no wonder her clothes have been sold off

To be frank, the fact that Fred didn't go for a supermodel-type but a plain Jane, who also in the intellect department seemed suitable for him, was one thing that I rather liked about the couple. I have respect for men (and women) who choose a partner, who is somewhat in the same attractiveness-level and a similar intelligence category. I just can't with the mid-sixties millionaires (or billionaires) who get attractive arm candies.

Mary's appeal to Fred has little to nothing to do with her looks IMO, and everything to do with Mary reinventing herself to be the girl of his dreams.
From memory, his grandmother was at end of life when he was in Sydney. Mary positioned herself as being all about family, sharing with the him the letters she had exchanged with her grandmother. Of note, once she was packing up to move to Denmark, granny's letters were tossed out in the trash as they no longer served a purpose.
He was an idiot who couldn't tell he was being played. Mary is, and always has been, an opportunist.
And here we are in 2021.

Me too Fairy, when she first appeared on the scene, she was sporty and fun. The seemed very happy together. Unlike some princesses that don't really put any effort into the job (like Cha Cha) at least she seems involved and trying.
Her obssession with getting skinny, plastic surgery and designer labels IMO was her downfall, if she's stayed normal, down to earth, bogan mares, jmo she would be getting more respect. Fred used to be attractive, outgoing and hot. I'd love to know who triggered who, did he go off the rails because she ended up not being who he thought he married, or did she go down the transformation/fake highway because he turned out to not be able to handle his responsibilities, unfaithful and a sad disappointment? Like I said they really seemed happy at first, something happened around Izzy's birth, imo they were headed to divorce and then the twins happened.

Yes and that was a marriage saving pregnancy... I’d suspect he was responsible for the flashpoint but not necessarily everything that lead to it .... she wasn’t going to walk away or be pushed out...

Apparently you can tell the age of a woman by looking at her hands. Yikes Mary.
Why do you think Madonna took to wearing gloves in all her interviews? For all her undoubted fitness as well as the nips and tucks, her hands didn't lie.

Does Mark Zuckerberg's wife count? I know they met before he had money but he married her after he became a billionaire. If there's one thing Zuckerberg's smarter than other billionaires, it's his choice of wife. I hope they'll remain happy together.

Because I apparently have too much time on my hands, here are the photos from Holger Reedtz-Thott's christening in 2006. Is it just me? I’d never physically kiss someone else’s tiny baby.
