Yes, the Australian Open is almost upon us Melburnians yet again but this time it's starting in Feb all we people have been hearing since these players landed is a bunch of sooks/primadonnas complaining about being put in lockdown in a hotel room the food is up to the standard they have a mouse in their room, etc do any of these players realize that we in Melbourne have gone through 8 months of lockdown to get to this stage.  And if they're not willing to play by the rules there more than welcome to head back home they have just shown what spoilt over-privileged nobodies they really are in the world if this is how they behave how about all of Melbourne boycott watching the Australian open all of there complaining has got on everyone nerves in this city of ours and we don't need their shit attitude.

Honest to God, I don't understand why these sports events aren't just cancelled for another year.  The world has far more important things to worry about right now than a bunch of rich people complaining.  With the nature of COVID, these events can't even be used as an escape from it all because COVID is left, right, and center.  And the money spent on this stupidity could be used in far better ways.

Agreed. And I'd add the Indian cricket tour - same complaints etc. Most people have limited interest considering the challenges of day to day life . . . .

A lot of people actually need the incomes that they get from working at these events - which is why they are going ahead.

The Indian cricketers complaints in Brisbane, was more about what they had been promised as their hotel and conditions and then weren't delivered e.g. that they would have access to the swimming pool and they weren't (and they were supposed to be the only people in the hotel). These guys had already done their 14 days hard lock down without complaining back in November but they weren't given what was promised when they agreed to go to Brisbane rather than stay in Sydney or return to Melbourne. Most of their complaints were met very quickly and they go on with the game.

The test in Brisbane was one of the greatest matches ever played and has be lauded around the cricket playing world. With the Indian cricket team you are talking about a world-wide audience of over 1 billion people and for many people this is an important aspect of their mental wellbeing - a time to forget their troubles and concentrate on something else.

The Aussie cricketers have already demanded that they get the vaccine first before they head off to South Africa for their tour there next month.

The difference between the cricketers and the tennis players is that the cricket teams can be put into a bubble and only have contact with each other while the tennis players are moving around and coming into contact with all sorts of people in different countries with different rules.

Well it seems the Oz Cricket team is about to go travelling to SA ..... so all sorts of people there in a different country with different rules  so not sure how this is "different" ..... maybe the tennis players should have traveled earlier to avoid a lockdown in weeks before their games or stayed home ...IMO they should all not travel at all .... it is all about money and championship points ....

I know that I was especially irritated by the girlfriend of one the players. That one who complained that she had to wash hair herself for the first time and that she had to use the loo with her boyfriend present (in the other room....)
At first I thought it was sarcasme, but apparently she was honest.

The OZ cricket team will travel as a bubble and only come into contact with each other and the SA cricket team who are also in a bubble in preparation for this visit (or will be from at least 14 days before the tour begins).

The tennis players are individuals and they travel as individuals with their own support people. They have come from other tournaments as well which they usually play in a lead up to the Oz open.

The money that this event brings into Victoria is massive as well as the people who wouldn't have jobs it the tournament was cancelled. They seem to be forgotten - not the tennis players but the staff at the courts who serve the food or man the souvenir stands. For many of them their job is to work at the tennis and other sporting events and that is it.

Most of them do - but the pool isn't the 'issue' per se but that promises about conditions were made and then not provided. If you are promised conditions for your work and they aren't provided how would you feel? I would regard that as a breach of contract and take them to court to get the conditions they agreed to provide in order to get me to work for them.

The Indian cricket team have also virtually been in quarantine since September due to the IPL and then the tour of Australia. They are about to go back to India but remain in quarantine due to the fact that the Poms are about to tour there after being in Sri Lanka.

love the double standards these tennis players were told not to bring their families along with them because they would be stuck in a hotel room and not be able to go anywhere nice to see Sarina Williams breaking the rules good luck trying to keep a child entertained in a hotel room for the next fortnight at the Australian Open.

Talk about this guy putting his foot in his mouth and his demands went down like a lead ballon know the ghoose is back peddling and did joker forget how he organized a tournament himself during lockdown were they were all caught partying it up no social distancing in a bar and they all contracted covid.

he another asshole tennis player who can keep his mouth shut if I was tennis Australia I would have had a gut full of this bullshit and placed them all on ther next plane back home without any prize money or their stupid trophy.
