Well, frankly she was very unsuitable right from the beginning and managed to be a very weak consort from the start - she looked zombie like/ sullen at so many events and after all this time she is not able to stick a sentence in French together which is close to embarrassment. Even Mares, Silvia of Sweden, Henri (Denmark) managed their language difficulties way better than her.

It was not that she did not know that Al was very active with many women before her. She knew that he had fathered two kids out of wedlock. She know what his job was. She was neither young nor rushed into anything. She made that choice. It is not that she was totally overworked or at her limit.

Now leaving her two children behind (for what exactly) without focussing on their well-being first for whatever reason seems odd and not very likeable. Sorry. Even if it is mental health. She is nobody who has to worry about ressources or if her health plan covers mental health. Again, like with French: she has all the ressources there.

Did you read the article before? Princess Charlene is ill,  she had  a serious  infection of  a ENT  during her trip to South Africa Africa and she had complicated operations  after the firdt operation which failed,  the last opertion  took place on june 23th,  the medical team of the princess said her not to travel to Monaco because ir is dangerious and she must have other operations and recovering
Albert came to see her  with the twins at the beginning of  juni, Charlene said in an announcement that  it will be the first time that she will not be with Albert to celebrat  her anniversary  with Albert,  but it was the only way for them  and it is   difficult for them, her children and her husband miss her a lot ,  they are talking every day and it helps her Albert and the children will come soon to see her and comfort her

Charlene is a good mother, she has not left her children, she is ill and cannot move to Monaco, she has still operations, it is not fair to critic a person who is ill even  if you find that she is not perfect, one day we  may be ill and we can understand

Whatever is really going on, I don’t think she’s well at all and I think it reflects poorly on the board dishing on her for that.

The anniversary message from Charlene was so cold. That marriage, IMHO, is over in all but name. By many accounts they have been leading separate lives for a while. She has apparently been in South Africa since January 2021 doing work with her foundation against rhino poaching.

She stayed on to attend King Zwelithini's funeral (March 2021) and apparently couldn't fly back because of the ear infection (April-May 2021).  If true, in fairness, she would have to get onto a plane to get to an ENT specialist in Europe  - probably not a good idea with an ear infection. J&G joined their cousins for a safari earlier this month (June 2021) , with their respective parents. Charlene couldn't fly back home so Albert brought them to her.  Only time will tell what happens next. Being away from J&G for so long must be taking its toll. Time and again she has shown that she adores children. That haircut is a cry for help. Did the latest paternity claim trigger the flight to Africa?

My theory: the additional paternity revelations in the lead up to the wedding were a bridge too far for Charlene because the infidelity was during the period they were a couple. This article states that she attempted to flee THREE times before the wedding!
https://www.dailymail.co....rt-ahead-anniversary.html
She was persuaded / convinced to go ahead with the marriage. Her lack of fluency in French (this is not an excuse for it but a possible explanation) may have less to do with a lack of ability than the absence of incentive: the countdown to the day she left started on the day she married. She had to have been one of the most physically lovely (person+hair+gown) but emotionally miserable royal brides in recent times. I like Charlene. From the times I have heard her, albeit in English, she was fluent, warm, engaging and seemed very committed to the  causes she supported in South Africa. However, she seems to be checked out of most things Monacan and looks miserable (bad form!) when doing any of it except those related to children or sport.  She did speak about the terrible 2019 she had with the loss of friends dear to her and her father's illness.

Her philanthropy in South Africa: she has always maintained that it was a form of giving back. Simplistically, the BRF has a connection to all of the Commonwealth, the SRF to parts of the Americas, the Belgian RF to former  Belgian Colonies in Africa, and Charlene to South Africa. She has done more good for especially kids of every hue and with far greater dignity than those who come to South Africa to use it as a backdrop for their pity parties.  Charlene seems to be a negligent Monacan Royal but a wonderful Monacan ambassador to South Africa. She gets mentioned in regional newspapers in which only the BRF have a high enough profile to get a mention i.e. not interested in European royalty in general.

Some background on King Zwelithini and Charlene's attendance of his funeral:
KZ was the longest reigning Zulu Monarch and would have received a State Funeral but he passed away from COVID-19 related complications and pandemic restrictions are in place; Charlene could attend the funeral and was seated up front with the family because KZ is reported to have a considered her a daughter. This is a big deal in South Africa considering our history.

EDIT:  I have focused on her impact in South Africa but Charlene's reach is global:

What I find so weird is IF she is ill with  ENT infection, unless she is in total isolation, why wouldn't he take the kids and stay there with her, or at least let the kids stay with their grandparents to visit her every day?  It doesn't make sense to me.  He's a kajillionaire, he can afford to arrange for his family to be with their mother.

It doesn't add up, their cover up story is just weak.  She left in January!  If what they are saying is true (which I don't believe) she's seen them once, if the pictures are anything to go by, they visited her brother, her niece had a birthday and they all went of safari (WITHOUT cha cha, she's not in the photo).

It reeks of image saving PR and perhaps a powerplay to keep the palace in charge of the message.  Do we know if she handles her own media accounts? Could all the messaging be coming from the same source > the palace?

That anniversary tweet was strange, cold and not just a little passive aggressive.  "Thanks for the kids but not for the past 10 years being married to you".  Could it be more clear?  If she wrote it, imo she's done with him. (I don't blame her)   Perhaps that has brought on her mental stress, she has stuck out the terms of the pre nup, but it's hit hard that  freedom means losing her kids.

I wish her the best.  If it's mental illness,  wouldn't it be a comfort and help her recover to have her children near and visiting.  Unless she can infect them with the infection, again, wouldn't having her children near be a good thing?

Is fatAl afraid she'll run off with them if he doesn't keep them in Monaco, will he not let her have them on her own because he's worried about their safety or just being a controlling jerk?  (jerk a likely reason IMO).

JMO it's clear by the crazy looking for attention hair cut, weight loss, leaving her kids and running off to SA for months something is going on with her.  I really hope it plays out well for those sweet kids, the grown ups need to not play games and put them first and foremost in priorities.

Thanks Maria - I agree. She’s a human being in some sort of pain and has to go through it in the public eye. I have nothing but sympathy.

If Charlene has (serious) mental issues, it’s not “playing around” and putting herself and health first, is prioritising and looking out for her children.

Seriously.

Maria, I agree. This seems like something serious and whether it’s a physical or mental issue with her, I feel sorry for her (and her family). She looked painfully thin in that birthday picture.

I hope she’ll get well soon. As a mother, I can only imagine how awful being away from her children must be.

I hope for the best for her because she hasn't looked like things are good for her for a while. There is no doubt she loves her children and it's got to be hard to be away from them but if this is more of a long term separation or trial then it will not be easy. Albert does not seem to have a cruel side but his position will not be threatened and surely he will take good care of the kids temporarily or permanently if that is part of what is happening. His kids seem not to suffer with him as a father not just materially but emotionally so that is something.

I’ve been highly worried about her for at least the past 6 months.

Whatever illness she is suffering from, I wish her a speedy recovery of course. But honestly, the palace PR is more than lousy and the main responsible for all kind of rumours and speculations. If she has a burnout or a depression, why not make an announcement ( without going into details too much of course)? The Dutch royal court was very open with the mental illness of Prince Claus even back in the eighties. Heck, even the most archaic Japanese court did publish a statement concerning Masako's mental problems. The Belgians made public Pss Astrid's insomnia which is also a sort of mental illness. Royals from all countries support help an openness about mental health issues. In which century does the Monegasque court live, early 10th century?

In all honesty I could very well see Charlene herself not wanting to admit that she's ill or that she needs help.

Sadly with depression it's still often the case that people don't understand it.

They label them as lazy, while in reality they are seriously ill. Instead many people are like depression=crazy. I mean I remember what was said about Steph of Lux.

And being healed from depression or even admitting to needing help has nothing to do with how much money anyone has.

I hope she's healing (whether it be mentally or physically) and gets better. It's not easy being in her position. Much love to Charlene!
