Israelis turned a desert into huge growing fields. It should be done for Jordan too and sustainably with water re-use and desalination etc so that the footprint is light. But there are many people in the region and country agricultural advances would support and employ. I don't know details so I might sound naive but there is precedent which is my main point. Pomegranates for example are so delicious and would be great for export.

I thought Jordan was already having a major part in tourism. F.e. Petra
Petra is their best assst and sure bring alot of visitord but they have more potentiel in this domain like the dea sea, the Sahara the religious sites.....that can take the country in a new level. Yet the tourism in Jordan industry is quit amateur imo

The amount of money the king socked away into off shore accounts is nearly exactly the amount of money they got in funding from foreign aid. Why, why would they not put that money into their country's development? Water is worth more than gold in that part of the world. Why not the desalination as Rita mentioned? Why not invest in the country? I'm really confused.

i think because they are too afraid to loose power and then they will loose also the money...they need cash outside Jordan in case they became the former royal family..
What i come to understand lately the JRF are not that popular or liked in Jordan especially the Rania and Abdullah...

Sadly, you may be right Rita. Of course, if theyíre not popular or liked maybe the thing to do is some introspection.

When monarchies (or governments for that matter) are corrupt and self serving, and the populace decides itís not for them, I donít have all that much sympathy.

The Greeks did something wrong. Which is why the population doesnít want them anymore.

Sure you are right Paulina

The problem is Rania and Abdullah are bad in reading the mood of their ppl, imo they think if the west like them and think they are cool and egdy and moderen why should not their countrymen...
This is why Hamzah outshine Abdullah as we've seen in this last crisis,Hamzah understood he must be close to ppl talk to them share their fear and hope...

Good analysis, Rita.  Seems like a common trap for royals to fall in...they become too obsessed with what others/the West/celebrities/etc. think of them at the peril of their own countrymen's opinions.

I may be reading too much into the photos, but she seems tense and worried. Everyone seems tense, not a relaxed visit. Her kaftan (is that the correct word?) is very beautiful.
