A new thread for the new prince  Smiley

Quote
On Sunday 28 March, a Council of State was held at the Royal Palace on the occasion of the birth of TRH Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia’s third child.

At the Council of State, HM The King informed the Government that the Prince/Princess, who is seventh in line to the throne, will be named Julian Herbert Folke and known as Prince Julian.

Prince Julian has been granted the Duchy of Halland.

In accordance with His Majesty The King’s decision of 7 October 2019 regarding changes in The Royal House, Prince Julian is a member of the Royal Family but not of The Royal House. The Prince will therefore not enjoy the style of Royal Highness.

That.. is not a name I like

Glad to know he’s healthy and fine and will likely enjoy a comfortable life with his two brothers.

I don't mind Julian, I can think of worse names for sure.

My sister just told me she was rooting for Athelstan. She says there is something grand about Anglosaxon names. It would have fit with Alexander and Gabriel vowelwise too.

Ick, awful name.  (Except for Folke which is the name of a hero.)  And Uncle Bertil's duchy.   Thumb down

Well, he's only a baby so I'll shut up now.

I like the name Julian, although I don't know exactly how it sounds in Swedish. I am looking forward to a picture of the new addition. Sofia and CP make very good-looking babies, so I have high hopes for this one too.

CG announcing the name (1:38):  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dFQfwkdkQI

Julian weighs 3220 grams and is 49 cm long.

The name Herbert is after Sofia's maternal grandfather, Janne Herbert Ribbe Rotman

In English and in English-speaking countries, it’s not a bad sibset, and all three names quite common. But in Sweden? I suppose Aexander is not outlandish, but Gabriel pretty rare, and Julian almost unheard of.

Could be worse.

A swedish Prins Julian sounds weird to me, but Oscar is the only name of the grandchildren I would have chosen myself, so I'm not surprised.

One thing bothers me: I get the impression, Carl Gustav chooses the Dukedoms very, very careful for CPs sons.

Alexander - Södermanland (he will get Stenhammar)
Gabriel - Dalarna (to "honour" his mother.   )
Julian - prins Bertil`s old dukedom.

Is there some personal connection to the other Dukedoms? Why got Leonore Gotland? Because Madeleine likes horses?  Huh?  Ist there a personal connection to Ångermanland (Nicolas) or Blekinge (Adrienne). Are there historical reasons?

Does anyone know more?

It's still CG trying to make sure CPs kids get the most historic because CP could only be a crown prince for a couple months.

It seems so, but I like to give him the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps there are things I don't know.

I like the other names better.

Alexander - the great - means defender of men
Gabriel - the arch angel - means God it's my strength
Julian - last pagan Roman emperor, Julian the Apostate(??) - means downy-beard
