A statue would be so fitting for Philip.

I think a bust would be easier to execute in a way that looks like him. Some statues just leave me scratching my head --crown princess Martha of Norway, for example.

Busts though go in small spaces while a statue can really take its place in a space such as The Mall. I think a statue of Philip on The Mall to be unveiled during the Jubilee Weekend next year would be a wonderful memorial and a way for The Queen to have Philip as part of that Jubilee as well.

I was thinking something like this... Jackie Robinson in Pasadena:

I think something that large of someone’s face is creepy!

That would be out of keeping with the surroundings of The Mall which is a very conservative restrained space. It really wouldn't fit in with the other statues and memorials in that part of London and they have many which are excellent likenesses.

I'm not saying it must be exactly like... but I think a large bust of Philip, not just a life-size bust sitting on a plinth in a corner somewhere, would be nice.

I think a statue would better suit not only the Mall, but also the spirit Prince Phillip embodied. If it were up to me - he would be in mid-stride.

It doesn't matter how old you get, buying snacks for a road trip should always look like an unsupervised 9-year-old was given $100. Anonymous

For some reason I don't see statues of white men of his era being erected, no matter what exactly they did or did not...

I agree! But, a dual statue with Liz.

This is a very good point. Philip said a lot of racist, offensive things. People can excuse it as his sense of humor or a generational thing, but at the end of the day his words hurt a lot of people's feelings, and so a statue of him solely might not be in the best taste. However, once the Queen passes, it would be nice to see a statue of the pair of them commissioned.

I think there is a statue near the Mall of HM, Margaret, and their parents commemorating the Blitz. Seems like something similar with the pair of them in a nearby park or such would be a nice tribute.

I could give an example but I’ll just leave it there; some media commentators have had a vested interest in reading racism into him. ❤️

And yes it’s better for everyone that those times have passed, but most of us have said things we wouldn’t want to see in print now.

I don't judge him. I quite liked his humour (and sometimes even the funniest get it wrong, so there is that). I just think with statues and reputations of men being cut down for actions not adhering to our current politically correct standarts and points of view, I would be rather surprised if there would be public statue. I could imagine a bust in some (Idk) headquarters of a naval base but not in the city of London...
