https://www.flickr.com/photos/brusse/32939590405When I married for the second time, my new husband was utterly appalled that I had named one of my daughters Martha. His only frame of reference was the Biblical Martha and he thought that in choosing that name I was condemning her to a lesser life of kitchen drudger and the like. He had never heard of Crown Princess Martha and how beloved she is by Norwegians and us Norwegian-Americans. I do think it's a lovely name, albeit not terribly common in the present day. Perhaps it is still in more common use in ``the old country'' than here in the US.
