It always surprises me when royal ladies use random pieces of jewelry to secure their order sashes. It has seemed to me that those sashes should be uniform and maybe issues with a particular pin comprising the order's emblem that can be used to make sure the sash doesn't move around.  And even stranger still is the practice of some royal ladies of using a brooch pinned to the back of the sash to hold it in place.

I am assuming that when someone is given an order with sash, they receive lots of extra ribbon because eventually the pin holes will begin to add up. (Definitely a first-world problem of the one percent of the one percent).

That Prince Albert brooch is the big gun, isn't it? Isn't it the one Albert gave Victoria after their wedding night? Woo-hoo and hotsy-totsy, considering how passionate their alliance was. I wonder if any of the subsequent wearers ever had similar thoughts about the brooch?

The day before their wedding in 1840 Prince Albert gave the brooch to Queen Victoria.

I wonder what the various royal women think when they don an item of jewelry with such an illustrious provenance? I mean, just imagine pinning Prince Albert's wedding gift to Queen Victoria on the lapel of one's jacket? Or a necklace that was once round the neck of Queen Alexandra? I think I would have to take a very deep breath, and also, of course, make sure that all the latches/catches were properly closed.
