The Chief of Defense has decided that the Armed Forces will deliver salutes from all salute stations at 12.00, 21 shots, as the Armed Forces' gift to the princess on her 18th birthday
It appears in a letter from the Armed Forces 'Joint Services dated 3 November, which the Armed Forces' forum has been given access to.
Princess Ingrid Alexandra turns 18 on Friday 21 January 2022.
According to SNL, 21 shots are saluted for various special markings in the royal house. The birthday of all members of the royal family who have reached the age of majority is one of these.
Earlier this year, it was discussed whether the Armed Forces should reduce the use of salutes, in connection with Crown Princess Mette-Marit's birthday.
The reason was that other Nordic countries and Great Britain only salute the majesties and the successor to the throne. It was nevertheless decided to continue the tradition.

Princess Ingrid Alexandra was originally supposed to have been celebrated several days to the end, including a government dinner in Oslo the day before the birthday and a gala dinner at the Palace on the 18th anniversary itself.
Both parts are now postponed until further notice due to the corona situation, the government states.
Thus, it is time for a delayed birthday party for the princess - like many other Norwegians who have had their big days hit or affected by the pandemic.

From before, the Chief of Defense has decided that the Armed Forces will honor the princess with a salute from all the country's salute stations at 12 o'clock on his birthday.
It will then be saluted with 21 shots, as is usual with special markings in the royal house.
Visited the powers that be
The last time a heir to the throne in Norway turned 18, it was a comprehensive program. An heir to the throne's authority day is not quite like most 18-year-olds.
Because when Princess Ingrid Alexandra's father, Crown Prince Haakon, turned 18 in 1991, he was visiting and received a special tour and introduction to the Storting, the Prime Minister's Office and the Supreme Court. A visit to the government for him who will be the country's next head of state.
On Crown Prince Haakon's 18th birthday, representatives of official Norway also came to the Palace to give gifts to the jubilee and congratulate the day.
Princess Ingrid Alexandra will probably go through the same program as her father, but it is not yet clear when that will happen.
Had to apologize for royal birthday party in the Netherlands
There have been several royal days in Europe now. Like Princess Ingrid Alexandra, Dutch Catharina-Amalia will one day be queen.
But while the 18th anniversary is being postponed in this country, the story is a little different in the Netherlands.
Crown Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands turned 18 last week. Now the Dutch royal family regrets that they held a birthday party while there are strict coronary restrictions in the country.
- The family tried to follow the corona rules responsibly with outdoor gatherings and by taking care of measures such as testing and social distance, writes Prime Minister Mark Rutte in a letter to the National Assembly.
- The king informed me that in retrospect it did not turn out to be a good idea to hold the gathering, Rutte continues.
This is not the first time the Dutch royal family has been at odds with the corona regulations.
King Willem-Alexander had to crawl to the cross and apologize after he and his family went on holiday to Greece right after the Netherlands closed down last autumn. Its popularity sank like a rock. The holiday had to be canceled.
Princess Ingrid Alexandra has visited the Armed Forces ahead of her 18th birthday, which she will be commander-in-chief of when she one day becomes Queen of Norway.
Three weeks ago, the princess visited the Hunter Troop in the Armed Forces' special command at Rena. The visit was the Armed Forces' confirmation gift to Princess Ingrid Alexandra in 2019.
During the visit to the Special Command, she dressed in military uniform and threw herself out of a jumping tower, where the soldiers practice parachuting.
Last Saturday, the princess was again dressed in uniform, when she flew with F-16 in Bodø. The fighter planes are being phased out after 40 years in the service of Norway, and Princess Ingrid Alexandra thus became one of the last to fly the F-16 in Norway.

Lieutenant Captain Ness Engh will be the princess' first adjutant at the beginning of the new year. In January, the princess comes of age. Number two in the line of succession Ingrid Alexandra is the first woman in the line of succession after women and men became equal as heirs in 1990. The Principal ADCs have ceremonial as well as practical duties. They participate in and perform ceremonial tasks during presentations of letters of credence by ambassadors to the King as well as in connection with state visits to Norway, gala banquets, lunches and other engagements at the Royal Palace.
Practical duties consist of project management related to large-scale events at the Royal Palace such as weddings, baptisms and other important occasions. The Principal ADCs have no fixed monthly duty but are summoned to service according to need.
The ADCs have fixed duty at the Royal Palace every third month, and the service rotates among the three ADCs from each of the military branches. During the two months when the officers are not at the Royal Palace, they are on duty at their permanent places of work.
The duties of the ADCs consist of:
Planning, coordination, facilitation and escort tasks related to the official programme of the King and the Crown Prince
Planning and preparation of and participation in activities related to visits within Norway and abroad, including coordination of arrangements with hosts, county governors’ offices and embassies, and necessary post-visit follow-up tasks
Planning and preparation of audiences, receptions and meetings
Ensuring that the King and the Crown Prince have been provided with any necessary background material and assisting in practical matters in connection with official visits.
Organisation
All officers who serve on the King’s Military Staff are permanent employees of the Armed Forces. The Armed Forces pays their salary and travel expenses, but the Royal Court provides them with office space and covers related expenses.
The King’s Military Staff functions as a department of the Royal Court, and as Chief Officer, the Chief of the King’s Military Staff participates in the Lord Chamberlain’s management group. The Chief Officer reports directly to the Lord Chamberlain on a daily basis and in all matters pertaining to the Royal Palace. The Lord Chamberlain assigns duties and issues instructions to the Chief Officer. In matters regarding the Armed Forces, the Chief Officer reports to the Chief of Defence.

In the year with the royal family they talk a bit about Ingrid turning 18.
King Harald says she is a very sweet girl, that she has no place in the council of state until he is gone (he says gone twice so there is no abdication comming it seems). That she will spend the next years focusing on her education, and wont have many official events.
Queen Sonja says she is very dedicated to her school work, that she enjoys beeing outside and is very sporty. She also days she is very annoyed when the press only write about what she wears and how she looks, and seems to plead with the press not to go bananas with what Ingrid wears and looks without saying it directly
Haakon says again that she is not obliged to join the military, she has one and a half year left in school and that they will think more about what she will do. He also says she wont do much official until she has had time to study, but it will be up to her also. He says that in connection to her 18th birthday she will visit Stortinget, the goverment and probabaly also the supreme court like he did. They say they look forward to the celebration but it seems the interview was made before it was cancelled.
Mette-Marit said they brought the kids to more events when they were smal, now when they are teenagers they have shielded them more, they need space and privacy in theese years.
King Harald says he is glad the kids have been mostly left alone by the press.

Princess Ingrid Alexandra visits the three state powers
January 20th
Her Royal Highness Princess Ingrid Alexandra will visit the Storting, the Supreme Court and the Prime Minister's Office on 20 January 2021 in connection with her 18th birthday.
10 a.m.: H.R.H. Princess Ingrid Alexandra visits the Storting and is briefed on the National Assembly's work by Storting President Masud Gharahkhani.
11.15am: H.R.H. Princess Ingrid Alexandra visits the Supreme Court and is briefed on the court's activities by Supreme Court Justice Toril Marie Øie.
12.30 pm: H.R.H. Princess Ingrid Alexandra visits Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and representatives from the government at the Prime Minister's office and is briefed on the work of the government and the ministries.
