IMO the British Royal Family showed them how it should be done - when Prince Philipp was very poorly in hospital for four weeks only Charles visited (and was critized for it, even though he came out crying). People would have understood if the Queen went in or sneaked in to be with her husband of 70 years. Did she do it? No. She could have. But as a figure head of state she knew that she was the measurement and people look up to her for orientation. So she did not pull her privileges.

Same at PP funeral. 30 was the limit. The image of the frail and lonely queen sitting alone in her grief will be in people's mind forever. They have a great family. Not even all the grandchildren could come, the great-grandchildren had to stay at home.

Now the Queen is cancelling her Christmas dinner ...

This is how this is done. Your job as head of state comes with unwritten rules. It gives you privileges at one side. At the other side all major family events are not that private. The Dutch royal family needs to understand that.

Hmm, disappointing. I saw reports some said up to 100 people were in attendance.
I know everyone is getting Covid fatigue but what this family don't seen to understand is they aren't Mr and Mrs Orange who can do whatever they want while facing the possibility of any criminal action based on the rules. He is the sovereign and they are public figures on public payroll. They seem to think they are just any other billionaires who can do whatever they want - of course any other billionaires getting caught out would get hammered in the press but at least their lifestyle is not public funded.
By itself this isn't a huge incident but this coming after the Greek holiday just suggests a complete lack of public service, never putting state before self, never learning from mistakes. I mean after the Greek holiday they went on video to say how sorry they are - well now that looks all empty words and mere PR.

Having said that, and regardless of whom that description entails, I have to say I feel quite uncomfortable when I see this kind of generalisation (and quite prejudicial comment) or even classifications of "race". It is unnecessary. We are talking about people, period. They are not tacky or OTT for being latinos, nor elegant exclusively for being europeans, or any other broad.and mostly demeaning generalisation.

I simply had to  think  of the apparent comments of the Zorreguieta family. They would have indicated that Amalia is more of an Orange, while Alexia is more of a Zorreguieta (in behavior etc.).

In terms of cultural differences,  social differences and all of that I think there are clear differences and I don't have a problem with them being pointed out, specially because there are no "better or worse" there. It's a contextual, educational, historical and location thing.  Clearly Max's background is different from her adopted country, and there's nothing wrong with that, and yes that influences somebody's personality too.

But when one attributes (and mostly this is done with a criticism or bad trait) for somebodies "race", and I personally don't like this word, I'm repeating what I saw here, well, then it can go in the direction of being a racist comment, and that I don't find cool.

PS: Almost forgot to say, I'm a proud latina myself, but I don't own of wear huge earrings and OTT clothes just because of where I was born - maybe I should, because I find Max to be gorgeous.

The information service of the royal family and the prime minister emphasize that Amalia's eighteenth birthday is "an important moment in her life".

Most festivities around Amalia's birthday were canceled due to the corona measures. Some things had been "planned at home", but that was canceled "well before the birthday". Last Saturday the party was organized "at the last minute" in the palace garden. According to De Telegraaf, the party took place under two open roofs against a house in the palace garden.

In October 2020, the royal family was already discredited because of not correctly complying with the corona rules. Despite urgent advice to make only necessary trips, the family went on holiday to Greece. When there was a fuss about their vacation, part of the family returned early. However, Princesses Amalia and Alexia then remained in Greece.

Individuals, families and friends everywhere have had to and still have to do without "important moments in life" celebrations.Close relatives and friends cannot hug, visit,see or even kiss and say their last goodbye to dear ones. And this family partied just a few days before the citizens they represent were sent into strict lockdown for the next three weeks. Disappointing.

Recognizable....I'm a typical 'down-to-earth' Dutch myself in appareance...can't worry too much about make up; usually wear jeans combined with a shirt/sweater/cardigan/etc; I also try to do odd jobs myself and so on and have worked relatively often in a male environment (where I feel quite at ease by the way). But my brain does overhours, and I have a lot of unconsieus feelings of not being good enough

Years ago, during high school, I received comments from a classmate about me being of a farmerbackground ('Boerentrien') and stuff. Even done partly with a smile. It went so far that I snapped and shouted at her comments about her own origin (she was of Italian and Dutch Moluccan background). I wasn't proud of it....but why would she be allowed to make negative comments about my background, but not me about her. The next day I had to report to school, to the teacher involved in this sort of matter. The teacher who had listened to us both in successive order decided not to do anything with it. When I then entered the class, I immediately had my classmate and her friends on my neck: "What kind of punishment had I received?" Well, they were amazed that there were no consequences, after which I was yelled and bullied on other points for a while.
