Tulip of Nonsense

This is the hardest event to dress for. It's a daytime, formal, military event. She has to wear a gown that's modest and somber. For this occasion, this is a perfect dress. In fact, she might consider wearing the same gown every year since gowns for this event aren't suitable for other official formal events. QM in Denmark wears the same gown every year for one of the New Year's receptions. Takes attention away from what she's wearing.
It's a cold, January day. Leti's needs to wear a covering over the dress. What should she wear with a dark blue formal gown if not a dark cape or jacket? The other lady is wearing a white fur jacket with a pale blue gown.
Also, the super-high platform shoes are fine for this event. She wants to appear taller (for greater presence for a military event?) and the floor length gown hides the shoes. And good for her if these are old shoes. I doubt she wore them more than a dozen times before. They're like new.
What makes me shake my head is her hair. I cannot stand the severe, basic style she so often wears now. I don't like Vik's severe updo's either. And they look worse now that she's over 40.
This is not a newly established tradition I presume? So there must be an old sartorial protocol for the event to follow, or? BTW how had Queen Sofia managed in her time with her dresses? Thanks if somebody knows better than me Correct, this is a well established event. Daytime formal is tricky, the protocol is a long dress. Being a military event, it also calls for something quite sombre, as opposed to Kings Day in the Netherlands that can have more of Max’s flair! Leti’s outfits have always been a bit hit and miss for this event, and I would guess the cold weather was unexpected hence the awful coat which doesn’t match. Here is a compilation of previous years http://orderofsplendor.bl...ch/label/Pascua%20Militar Thank you very much

Sofia's clothes at this event were mostly 'awful' compared to her Valentino and Oscar de la Renta gowns at the state dinners. For me Leti's worst ones were 2010-2013 from Varela with the business style jacket. I doubt she would wear those ugly gowns again. What a waste of money all those 10+ years with Varela since only very few can be recycled forever.

Interesting and somewhat sweet to rewear the clothes. I see she is still styling her hair for laundry day though. So confusing.

I’m more impressed that Sofia was ever that slim. I’m about the same height at Letizia but if she were to rewear anything of mine, it would have to be something from my teenage years, before the rot set in.
Sofia looks of an age where she’d already have had her three children in that photo.

And agreed 100% that Leti's hair is all wrong for this appearance.

Just rewearing what your mother in law wore is . . . ugh or meh. But the top could have been great and "reworked" with a better bottom, pink skirt or pants or something that says "refresh."

Yes, I don't hate the top but the green part is swallowing her up whole. And the ponytail

I don't like the dress, she looked like she had no waist. Ponytail is a horror, a necklace like Sofia's would help too. What a waste on a haute couture (Valentino ?). Leti needs a good stylist since after so many years she still seems clueless herself on how to dress properly for a big event (I still can't get over that toilet paper dress at the state dinner in Sweden).

Ummm … I love it. All of it. So there … Same here! The skirt is a teensy heavy/billowy for my taste but I think it's a cool look. The simple hair and minimal jewelry balance it well to me.

Is there something different about the waist? It looks like Sofia has some fabric dangling from the center of the waistband.
