what does " of private nature" mean? they bought tooth brush and tooth paste? furniture? I thought they bought all their furniture already...or can use the ones in storage... wonder if there is any mention of haberdash stipend MEdiana spends? G Apparently the children are in private schools - so maybe school fees ?

Someone should calculate how much one of Frodo's rare opinions cost the public.

I think people here would find this article interesting, comparing the costs of eight European royal houses (they’ve included Luxembourg but not Lichtenstein). It’s part of a wider suite of articles about the Windsors specifically, but this article gives even time to all eight. https://www.theguardian.c...f-european-royal-families(And I reopen my offer to Danish Dishers, I will swap you the Glucksburgs for the Windsors. Any day. We can even haggle a bit about whether you have to take the Prince Michael family in the deal, I can be reasonable)

ANDREW DENTON: Yes. What did... When you first met, what did you see in each other? CROWN PRINCE FREDERIK: What did we see in each other? We saw... Well, it's a bit hard. It's a bit blurry, in a way, because it was just after the Olympics had started and it was one of those evenings where...

Its a good article but like so many comparisons it fails to really get to the bottom of the cost of the monarchies - Spain's must cost more than £7.5million - that amount doesn't include the payments made by other departments - e.g. to upkeep the Palaces, transport etc

I just saw that it has been confirmed that Frederik and Mary will attend the coronation. I think Victoria is going too, and her father, plus a Felipe and Letizia, so Charles will get a few monarchs among all the crown princes and princesses.

Is it mean of me to say I suspect Mary wasn't not going to attend this one after the funeral debacle...

If you mean that you wouldn't put it past Marge to suddenly elbow her daughter in law aside and attend the coronation after all then I am with you. I can see that happening. I hope she continues to prioritize her convalescence.

To be fair, she was profoundly humiliated by a mixup in the reporting of the invitations…

Thats why I think even if Daisy attended this time she would go as her plus one.

I think royals are more discreed than that. Daisy would never leave Frodo at home and bring Mary instead. It is also a question of rank. I am sure they said "sorry" and Mares understood or at least pretended to be. Maybe Charles promised to give Pa a private tour of Highgrove garden or something I am sure they made up for it.
